Thanks for taking time to respond.
Firstly 'Union Stores' is a word of mouth reference that has been passed down over the years, therefore may not be accurate. It was a pity that Kelly's directory only refers to him as grocer and does not mention the whereabouts or name of store.

Your comment re visiting Cinderford has come a little late as I did visit the library a few weeks ago and understand your comments re the town being a little run down! As a child, I stayed with my grandfather Wallace Jones(Edwin's son) and grandmother Hilda (nee Merriman) in Belle Vue Road where they lived for well over 25 years and have many happy memories of these visits. Unfortunately as a child I did not have the interest in family history so did not ask them all the questions I would like answers to today!
If you do come across any photos or reference to the shop I would be pleased to hear from you.
