Richard and Ann Whittington (General)

In researching a friend's family I have the marriage certificate of her G Grandfather, Richard Whittington to Ann Whittington on 19 July 1857. Ann does not give a father (they lived at Strip and at it) but I have been told they were first cousins. Can anyone shine any light on this please?!
