Cinderey Family (General)
I recently started researching one of my husband's aunt's family members. Her father was William Cinderey b:16 Jan 1906 Pennsylvania. After visiting them this summer and gleaming as much information as she could remember, gathering what few photo's she had, I began my search. After exhausting what I could find on ancestry and a couple of other websites I was able to determine her grandfather, John Herbert Cinderey b:11 Oct 1876 East Dean, Gloucestershire, England immigrated to USA in 1904 with his wife Mary (Murtagh?) and their oldest son Herbert Michael Cinderey b:16 Mar 1902.John Herbert was the son of John H b: 1854 and Elizabeth A Brain b:1850. I was also able to determine that John H (1854) was the son of George and Betsy (Wilks or Wilkes) Cinderey and thought that Georges father was named Guy.
I began to put together what little I had found for her and decided to do a little research on the East Dean to include with it when I go back to visit them in a couple of weeks. I came across this research forum yesterday. What a blessing! I found the 2006 and 2008 threads with loads of information!
I decided to post this information in case anyone would be interested in the records I have on John H and Mary Cinderey that immigrated to the US and their family.

Cinderey Family
Hi Historyhound
Thank you for your well written posting. John Herbert Cinderey 1876 is my 2nd cousin twice removed, I had no idea he had emigrated to USA so had no knowledge beyond his birth, so thank you for the information.
As usual Slowhands as covered a lot of information, this time ony one fact new to me, unusual for a slowhands post.
Perhaps I can add to the details already posted, some may be included in the link, but I haven't looked at that yet. So adding to Slowhands information :
John Cinderey 1809 did indeed marry Elizabeth Brain born 1850 on 20 Dec 1873, Drybrook. Elizabeth Brain was the daughter of Simeon Brain 1819/1873 & Ann Marfell 1874. Ann Marfell was baptised 25 Jan 1824 daughter of one of my GGG Grandparents Cornelius Marfell 1779/1850 & his second wife Tamar Herbert 1792/1877. I can go back another 7 generations of Marfell's but for this posting that will do. Simeon Brain 1819/1873 was the son of James Brain 1785 & Sarah Drew 1768 James Brain 1785 the son of Giles Brain 1749/1796 & Ann Vaughan 1745/1813. 2 more generations of Brains (William 1717, Giles 1686) goes back to one of my 7 X Great Grandparent Giles Brain 1660 & Elinor.
Slowhands has shown details for Guy Cinderey 1784 & Susannah James 1789. Going back, Guy Cinderey baptised 4 July 1784 son of Guy Cinderey 1738 baptised 27 Nov 1738 Lea & Ann Lodge married 9 Aug 1751 Brampton Abbots - 5 children. Guy Cinderey 1738 son of Guy Cinderey 1689 baptised 26 Noc 1689 Lea & Jane. Guy Cinderey 1689 son of William Cinderey born abt 1660 died 16 Jun 1731 Lea & Margaret born abt. 1660 died 22 Apr 1740 Lea. William was Churchwarden, St Johns Church Lea.

Cinderey Family
Jim and slowhands - thank you so much for all the wonderful and fasinating information. My husband's aunt will be thrilled when I go to visit her again in 2 weeks! She is the granddaughter of John Herbert and Mary (Murtagh)Cinderey, the daughter of their son William who was born in the US after they immigrated to Pennsylvania. She had more information on her mother's family than she did her fathers. I am so excited to tell her of my discoveries.
If anyone should have any photos they would be willing to share that would just be an extra blessing. I have a handful of photo's of her father William, mostly when he was in the Army during WWII. Even though she was 12 when her parents divored, she remained close with her father, but wishes she had asked more questions about both sides of her family. Just an aside her greatgrandfather on her mother's side was the international peace activist between 1913-1929, the Rev James William VanKirk, who designed the first "World Peace Flag"
Cinderey Family
Hi, I recently started looking for my family history - my grandmother's mother was Lilly Clara Cinderey the daughter of John Cinderey and Elizabeth Cinderey. My grandmother Lillian also emigrated to USA but returned when her father died and spent the rest of her life in England. It is fascinating to see how much has been discovered already! I started on the Family Search website and found a few interesting things and then found this site. Will have to write it all up and then see what bits are missing!
