Jenkins family Sling 1911 (General)

by tonyjenkins @, Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 12:19 (4655 days ago)

My family James Jenkins are listed next to the Miners Arms on the 1911. Is it possible to identify the location of their home in 1911.

Many Thanks

Tony Jenkins

Thanks for your prompt response

I have researched the 1911 census for Sling, the route starts and ends at Clearwell Meend (I guess Rock lane)

I presume the route leaves Rock lane and passes the rear of Miners Arms on the right hand side. The enumerator then proceeds down into Sling hamlet and along Oakwood road to the cross roads where he then turns right past the present Sling club to the Miners arms turning right to his starting point.

If my presumption is correct then my GGrandfather would have lived in a property between the present Sling club and the Miners Arms.

If my thoughts are correct does any property still exist that would match the location?

Does anyone have any different thought

As far as I know the land between the Miners Arms and Sling Club did not have any Houses on it until the Council Houses opposite Sling Club were built c1950 and the Private Estate built in the 1970s. However, there are old semi detached cottages on the Cross Roads by the Club which would meet the criteria of 4 Rooms, also there are some old cottages on Oakwood Road near to where it joins Main Coleford Road by Fred Watkins Engineering site that might fit.
