Witnesses give clues.

When Thomas MACKLIN married Hester COBAN - 31 May 1819 (had a daughter christened Maria)

and on the notes: The brides surname may be the same as the first witness COUBAN, the Curate may have spelt it wrong based on phonetics.

witnesses: Maria COUBAN and William WARD

There is a marriage at St Briavels - 19 September 1830 - of a Maria COUBAN marrying a William BEARD -

One child christened on FOD records of this couple

George 22 May 1835, at Lydney, parents William & Maria BEARD

residence: Pill House - Parish of Lydney, Doubler in Tin Works

-----

The couple listed below can be eliminated, as William BEARD married Maria BINNING and two children were christened in Gloucester in from 1828.

1851 Census Barton St Mary

15 Prince Street

William C BEARD 43 - Butcher, born Longhope
Maria BEARD 4 (then a line through age) - born Gloucestershire
