Joan or Jane Mutlow (General)

by charwatkin @, Dalton, Ohio, USA, Monday, March 19, 2012, 20:30 (4627 days ago)

There seems to be two different threads of thought out there, as far as, the parents of Joan, Jone, Jane... Mutlow: Richard or Will (etc.)

Cany someone clarify this for me?? Has there been 'proof' as to which it is?

Thank you. This Website has been a blessing in my research!

Joan MUTLOW; Ruardean area 1700 ish

I am sorry.. I should have put more information in the message.

Yes, "tht" Joan/Jone Mutlow - wife of Giles Brain. I have seen two different parents for Joan Mutlow and was wondering if there had been specific reasons for the choices.
1. Richard and Mary - b.1691(their daughter was "Jane")

2. William and Joane - b. 1690

3. Christopher & Joan had a daughter Joan but she died young, so I have crossed them off my 'list.' . . . No I haven't... just went over my notes again, it was Phillip & Alice, whose daughter died young.

I went over & over the possibilities yesterday, marriages, spellings of the name Mutlow/Mutlowe/Mutloe, burials, etc. So far, I am leaning towards Joan Mutloe, daughter of William & Joane b. 6 July 1690.... and Joan Mutlo b 1687 daughter of Christopher & Joane.

Maybe it is something that cannot be said for sure. I was wondering what the 'train of thought' was on the possibilities. If it is too murky, I will not give parents to Joan, wife of Giles, at this time.

It is difficult to be 100% certain when researching back this far, without some form of corrabatory evidence, such as a Will. In my version of events I have my 6 times great grandmother Joan Mutlow wife of Giles Brain as the daughter of Richard Mutlow & Mary.

Giles Brain & Joan had 9 children, including James Brain 1714/1766 who married Mary Goode 1716/1767, they had a daughter Mary 1738 who married my 4 times great grandfather Richard Marfell.

Jim:

Thanks for the response. That was a bit of what I was thinking, trying to look at the names of the children as a clue. Looking at it that way, I had leaned towards Christopher Mutlow & Joan Glow (m 14 De 1676), whose daughter Joan was born in 1687.

Giles & Joan are also my husband's 6th great grandparents - next on to their son Christopher Brain. It seemed that from this union, the name Christopher became a regular Brain name, if you will. I think that your James - brother to my Christopher, had a son Christopher, as well. I guess, I had been thinking the name Mary was fairly common and Christopher not as much. I am not trying to dismiss your thoughts, just explaining mine as I went.

Again, I appreciate the response. As you said, a will may be the only way. That would be the next step to try and see if there was one for clarification.

Thanks Charlotte

Christopher Brain 1725/1799 is my 6 times Great Uncle. I have 13 children for Christopher Brain & Ruth, including 2 Christophers, the first Christopher 1755 being twin of James and (as you probably know) sadly they both died the same day.

I do have my James's son Christopher 1744 as married to Ann Jelfe.

I have plotted a number of the descendants of your Christopher Brain and have descendants for 6 of their 13 children. I think we can probably gain by sharing information and will email you using the link.

Christopher Brain / Ruth descendants

Looking forward to hearing more on this.

From what I can see, there were 3 children named James and 2 named Christopher. Evidently those names were important to them to pass on. Obviously, Christopher after father... wonder if James was the name for the father of Ruth??
