Hi
I think we can discount this one as well,
Probably Florence Dent married Edward Hathaway, 1904 Newent.
(1911 census gives her birth as 1869)
Edward died 1950 Glos.
Still working on the Tucker family, I didn't think there was a connection with the FOD. or Lancashire.
On her visit to the Forest, could she have stayed in a Hotel in Broad St.

I found 974 Florence b 1874/1876 in Gloucestershire, I feel as though I know them all personally.
Countrywide, several had familiar names,
2 TINGLE
4 NIBLETT (various spelling)
1 PICKTHORN
2 RUCK.
I will try to follow them through the census.
Florence P.(1873/76) ONLY! 184 Countrywide, 5 in Glos. 1 in Hereford.
Yesterday I tried the new 1940 US census, cross referenced to her 1930 residence, I found it very difficult to work, no result so far. In the 1950's she lived in 60, West Green St. Nanticoke, PA.
If anyone has mislaid a 'Florence' I'm your g.Gran!, pity I can't find my own Florrie.

Margaret

After several marathon sessions with the Parish Records and the archived posts,
Taking a tip from a 2008 post from PhilipN, I have checked out Mike Niblett's website too.
This is my 'shortlist' of families that could be connected in some way with Florence;
Timothy NIBLETT RUCK. siblings.(Hannah's chidren)
Joseph PICKTHORN & Eliza BRYANT
William TINGLE & Elizabeth BRYANT
Samuel BRYANT & Elizabeth HALE
Stephen George BRYANT RUCK ( BRYANT later?)
Sarah BRYANT nee RUCK. siblings
James WATKINS & Maria RUCK
Jemima PATER nee RUCK BRYANT ( I believe she had more children after her husband died in 1868, but her birthdate is a problem)I also believe Leonard William BRYANT b1875 in Bethnal Green is her son, (previous thread)
I don't know where this will lead, but it is the only thing I can think of.

Margaret

Hi all.
At last I've found her, after all this time, no wonder she wanted to visit the FOD.
Florence Priscilla MORGAN, b. abt. 1875.
Parents, John MORGAN and Sophia RUCK.
Sophia RUCK b. abt.1837?
Parents,William and Mary RUCK.
I think Sophia is a sister of my G.Grandmother Sarah BRYANT nee RUCK.
John and Sophia were witnesses at the marriage of Maria RUCK and Timothy Niblett RUCK.
Florence MORGAN age 43, married Thomas Davey in Pennsylvania, USA,in 1918 (Family Search)
I don't think her parents were in the USA,
I believe Sophia RUCK died in 1891 FOD,although there is more than one Sophia RUCK listed in the Parish records.
Can anyone help to put flesh on the bones?
Regards,
Margaret

As I can't find another possible Florence in 1911 it does appear that she emigrated between 1901 & 1911.
Needle in a haystack is spot on, but not half as bad as looking for a Florence ? :-)

Florence P. Morgan & Thomas M. Davey Emmigration ?
by Jefff , West London, Middlesex, Monday, September 24, 2012, 02:14 (4439 days ago) @ MJL
We know Florence Priscilla Morgan b1875 is in Penarth in the 1901 Census, working as a "servant". I don't have full Ancestry etc access, it could be useful to know what sort of household it is and whether she may have emmigrated with her employers (search for them in 1911 perhaps) ??.
Penarth is only a few miles from Cardiff and the South Wales coalfields, it expanded hugely following the opening of the massive new docks in 1865 which were built to ship coal & steel across the world.
Having searched very thoroughly thro FreeBMD, AncestrySearch & LDS and seeing a great MANY Florence Morgans, I suspect this is a popular traditional Morgan family name; just as you have said Margaret.
However from what I've seen I think Priscilla is not and is quite rare, in fact it's the ONLY example of this name on the FreeBMD site, as you've posted above:
Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Sep 1903 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morgan Florence Priscilla A Cardiff 11a 480
I therefore suspect this is Florence's daughter...given the name, date and place.
Of course this is pure conjecture, but it seems likely to me. I wonder if her birth caused Florence to lose her servant's job ?. Could the father have been in the same household ?. Is there a Thomas Davey in the household or neighbourhood, for this it may be worth you searching Ancestry etc for him assuming you can do.
Also from FreeBMD is this Marriages, right time, right place:
Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Jun 1927 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MORGAN Florence P A Thomas Cardiff 11a 727
Thomas John Morgan Cardiff 11a 727
Again nowt certain but compelling methinks...
From the free-to-access 1911 Census on Ancestry, could this be our Florence ?
She's certainly the best "fit" amongst many near-misses.

Back to Florence P. Morgan b1875, we know she's married Thos M Davey "born England" by 1920.

Ponty is a coalmining town only a few miles from Cardiff up the Taff Valley where it meets the famous Rhondda. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontypridd
My childhood neighbours in 1970s Cinderford Bilson were Cornish who's forefathers had moved to the Forest to the coalmines, just as many others went to South Wales; they came from the tin mines for which St Agnes is particularly famous.

Florence P. Morgan & Thomas M. Davey Emmigration ?; PART 2
by Jefff , West London, Middlesex, Monday, September 24, 2012, 02:30 (4439 days ago) @ Jefff
Searching FreeBMD uk-wide for Thos M Davey, there appears a distinct geographical "thread", starting with:
Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1869 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Davey Thomas Mark Camelford 5c 11
Camelford is in Cornwall not too far from St Agnes. Is this our Thos, I think so.
In later years the relatively few (and all different) Thos M Daveys are between Cornwall and Cardiff/FoD; in Devon, Bristol and then:
Births Sep 1896 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Davey Thomas Morgan Pontypridd 11a 489
This is also interesting, altho of course Morgan IS a very common local surname:
Births Sep 1908 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Davey Thomas Morgan Swansea 11a 1195
Could this be a son of "our" Thos Davey & Florence P. Morgan, a brother to Florence P.A. b1903, the Morgan second name perhaps recognises they were not yet married ?
NO !, the free Ancestry 1911 access lets me find this lad with his Jackson/Beddal grandparents born & still living in Swansea... which is probably followed by
Marriages Sep 1935 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Davey Thomas M Williams Swansea 11a 2321
Again most probably coincidence, but reminds me that Florence b1875's grandfather was a Thomas Morgan, as was Gertrude b1875's father...?
HOWEVER, searching the above Thomas Morgan Davey's shows it is actually quite a common name in South Wales, so what now ????
I suggest perhaps searching for Thos M.Davey born 1866-1870 within the neighbourhood of Florence's address in 1901 Penarth Census.
ALSO the Emmigration Records for them both, hopefully travelling together and from Cardiff ?
Florence:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gl=40&rank=1&new=1&MSAV=0&...
AND Thomas:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gl=40&rank=1&new=1&so=3&MS...
Is it too much to hope the first "hits" on both these searches give coinciding dates, both are to New York (hence Pennsylvania ?), please check them out somebody and post back, thanks.
Of course, it's possible they didnt meet in the UK, but that seems very unlikely to me.
Hope this helps a little Margaret,
good luck !
