Seeking a website (General)

by unknown, Friday, April 20, 2012, 04:54 (4596 days ago)

It is a few years since I found this site, and my, how it has grown.
I wonder if anyone can help me to identify a web site that I used to use when I was following up my father's family in Gloucestershire. Unfortunately when I bought a new computer I forgot to save ny bookmarks, and now I am back to research my mother's family it is like starting from scratch. I know, I know, why didn't I keep records?
What I am looking for is a web site I used constantly which contained Parish records, listed by County, and then towns and villages in alpha order. The web site was a free site set up by a wonderful man whose name escapes me. I know this is very sketchy, but maybe it will ring a bell with someone.

Just wondering if this is IGI Gloucester? As listed by Hugh Wallis.

IGI Batch Records for Gloucestershire - under GENUKI, Church Records -

A few months ago, the old system of searching, was taken off the Church of Latter Day Saints site, totally.... After many complaints, this was re-instated, but not in the format it was - 'quite long winded now', but at least the information has returned. I just leave the surname search blank when searching a place as surnames vary in spelling and just hit 'submit' - but the whole register comes up. Perhaps someone else has found an answer to searching quicker!

IGI

Hi M

Yes it is a bit slower, but I still don't have time to make a cup of tea while it is loading!

I think it is just because you have to wait for the search page to come up on a different tab, then fill in details, then wait for the list to be populated. It seems to find what I ask for (perhaps you should talk nicely to it!)

Yes, Chris, it was indeed the Hugh Wallis site, but I'll definitely have a look at all the other sites suggested.

William Good's site is also well worth a look for North Gloucestershire and South Worcestershire. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wrag44/index.htm
