Hansley, Hawsley or Horsley (General)
Hi Ian,
there is a Hawsley near Joys Green up above Lydbrook, search the local pub "Masons Arms Hawsley" or similar on the old maps site is a good starting point.

Or the Easywell site is good for pub histories, interestingly the entry for the Mason Arms spells it as "Hausley, a tiny hamlet". Searching this forum I see this spelling was used on the 1851 census.

My father was born&bred locally in Joys Green/Reddings, I wonder if his father "wetted his head" in the Masons Arms, his first son to follow the older daughter ?. Old photos show his Uncle as a member of the Hawsley Quoits team, winners of the Ruardean Hill & District League 1926 Season, presumably they celebrated with a half shandy at the pub.
