Richard Ward b. 1777 (General)

WARD FAMILY Newland Chapel.
Please, has anybody done anything on the WARD family as I would like confirmation of my links (being a beginner) and also some help.

My grandfather was William (George) WARD, b. abt 1875 in Bream, who moved to Maesteg, and married Emily GRIFFITHS
His father was Richard Henry WARD b.18 Aug 1853 in Lydney married to Ellen Jane HILL b. 29 Oct 1853 of Redbrook.
His father was George WARD b. 22/3/1818 Redbroke who married ?Sarah BEACH b. abt 1813 in Breen Chapel, Newlands (parents Thomas BEACH 1772 and Mary KEAR b. 1778)

His father was Richard WARD 1777, who married Frances HARRIS

However, I don't feel too secure in my research, and the whole stack of cards will fall if I have gone adrift in the beginning.

I cannot find parents for Ellen Jane HILL (29 10 1853 - 16 1 1890) neither can I find the 2nd marriage for her widower, Richard Henry WARD, who moved to Cinderford after Ellen Jane died.
Many thanks

I can now see why Clare questioned Sarah's surname, but cannot explain it...yet.

Using FoD's Advanced Search, searching Marriages with Bride's Father = Thomas Dobbs, within the very near timeframe gives two similar puzzles:

I cannot find this couple on GlosFH 1851 Census, or their offspring in FoD PRs, do they leave the area?

I cannot find definate Baptism Records for either of the girls, they are very popular(common) names locally. I wonder if Dobbs & Beach are now married ?

This is the ONLY Dobbs/Beach Marriage in ALL of the FoD PRs:

Parents of Sarah BEACH b abt 1810-1820 ?

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Friday, May 11, 2012, 06:31 (4575 days ago) @ Jefff

If Annie was a "minor" in 1838 she was born after 1820 and probably before 1823 ?
Sarah is presumably older so born before that, say 1810-1820. Clearly these are both before the above Dobbs/Beach Marriage hence odd surnames.

Using Advanced Search looking for all Baptisms in PRs with mother Mary Beach, I find only ONE Annie within several years, and in Newland too, so this MAYBE our Baptism:

Record ID 44064
Entry Number 549
Year 1825

Residence Redbrook
Occupation Shoemaker
Officiating Minister G Ridout Off[iciatin]g Minister

This is the whole family group:

43815 1819 BEACH John Edgeworth Samuel Mary Clearwell Shoemaker Newland
43861 1820 BEACH William Samuel Mary Clearwell Cordwainer Newland
43934 1823 BEACH Cordelia Samuel Mary Redbrook Shoemaker Newland
44064 1825 BEACH Anne Samuel Mary Redbrook Shoemaker Newland
44165 1827 BEACH Eliza Samuel Mary Redbrook Shoemaker Newland

Sadly no Sarah Beach, and I cannot find a suitable Burial for Samuel before 1838... so this theory is clearly flawed...??

NOTE !!

Prior to posting this I deliberately didnt follow Clare's original post wrt Sarah Beach's Parents, as she had questioned it, so it's gratifying that we agree wrt mother name = Mary. However clearly I do not yet share her view that the father is Thomas Beach and that this is the correct Marriage;

I understand the logic wrt his name being Thomas, altho' I suspect it's Thomas Dobbs, but I cannot find any Baptisms in the FoD PRs for either Sarah or Anne with these parents.

Clare, please can you confirm your thinking here, thanks ??.

TIME FOR A SNOOZE METHINKS, will revist and finish this later today ...

Richard A. WARD b1880, and a Word of Caution.

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Friday, May 11, 2012, 06:33 (4575 days ago) @ Jefff

Just to confirm "the obvious" as twere, Richard Henry WARDS son Richard A. WARD b1880 as per the various Census' is Richard ALFRED Ward:
He is not in FoD PRs but from GlosBMD:

Birth Details
Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
WARD Richard Alfred WARD WARD HILL 1879 Forest of Dean Monmouth, Coleford 37 214

I state this as I'd wondered if the Census Transcript was possibly in error and the A should read H, due to what seemed a proliferation of Richard H(enry) Wards in the FoD PRs in addition to his father.
Because of my confusion while finding these "foreign" PRs in passing, I thought I should show my findings to maybe save other researchers repeating my confusion.

So, to reiterate, the following is a different family group albeit with confusingly similar names & timeline:

From GlosBMD (No FoD PR):

Birth Details
Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
WARD Richard Henry WARD WARD MORGAN 1877 Forest of Dean Chepstow, Lydney 16 79

From GlosBMD his parents Marriage (No FoD PR):

Marriage Details
Groom Surname Groom Forename Bride Surname Bride Forename District Parish Building Year Register Entry
WARD Richard MORGAN Mary Ann Forest of Dean Hewelsfield St Mary Magdalene 1869 1 186

I suspect this is Marriage of young Richard b1877, from FoD PRs:

OR, from GlosBMD:

This helps clarify my confusion, hopefully it will someone else's too !

Parents of Sarah BEACH b abt 1810-1820 ?

by unknown, Monday, May 14, 2012, 15:22 (4572 days ago) @ Jefff

Unfortunately, I have not mastered keeping source records - yet.

But I thought Thomas Beach (1772 - 1813) died as Sarah was born (1813 -) I also found her potential mother, Mary, remarrying when Dobbs died, 1826 I think. At this stage I lost it as she might have married again. It does make Mary (Kear) an old mother.

Thank you so much. I am making a first visit to the Forest of Dean this week, just to get a flavour of the lives there, so will do little to the tree in until then, busy reading about tin and mines etc.

Frances HARRIS 1796-1884 Clearwell

by unknown, Saturday, May 12, 2012, 22:40 (4573 days ago) @ slowhands

It is so valuable for me to have confirmation of the things I've got right, and also being put right where I have gone wrong. Thank you. I'm doing a short first visit to the Forest to try and get some small insight into forest life, so will not be putting too much on the tree this week.
