Ayleford (General)
Hello,
I am researching my Nelmes line back through Soudley/Bradley Hill, but have come across reference to them living at Ayleford.
William Nelmes died in Ayleford in his 80's in the 1830's, and was buried in Newnham, and his grandson, John, fell at a mine causing an accidental death, in Jan 1870. However, on the inquest the place of Ayleford is given. It is only since I have found the inquest in the paper, that it confirms it is the 'correct' John to my tree as it says he lived in Bradley Hill.
Can anyone help clarify where Ayleford is/was, as i can not find it as a parish or on a map.
Thanks
Daniel

Thank you,
I can see now that Ayleford is just below Bradley Hill, and the two were both classified as Sewdley/Soudley.
Has anyone got any good references for the local history of Ayleford?
The quarry of interest is Shakemantle, and the pub is the White House Inn (inquest), or it is the White Horse Inn (newspaper)???
Thanks again
Daniel
Soudley / Ruspidge / Buckshaft

The White Horse Inn is still trading in Upper Soudley
Church Rd, Soudley, Cinderford, GL14 2UA, that will be where the Inquest was held
Shakemantle Quarry is south of Buckshaft / Ruspidge - on the border of Upper Soudley
