Millend, Blakeney (General)
Hi all, I am currently researching the lane I live on, Millend,Blakeney and was wondering if anyone out there can provide me with any information whatsoever on anything to do with Millend, the cottages on it, previous inhabitants, the names of the cottages etc.
It is a big ask I know, I have been trying to trace the inhabitants of Millend but in particular the row of cottages in which I live, starting from Mill Cottage and working up the lane to The Glen. I have a list of all those that lived here in this terrace (then called Mill End Row)in 1901, however none of them have house names or numbers so trying to match one family up to each house has so far been tricky! I guess house numbers/names just werent needed at the time or were not recorded on the census.
Does anyone using this site live here as a child? have relatives who used to live here?Or know someone who did?
Any information would be very gratefully accepted.
Thanks! Laura.

The census should be sequential dwellings, so if you can work out if its North - South or south - north !
So in 1901 the enumerator starts at the Lodge and moves along Millend, Millend Row on to Etloe House and farm. That feels like North -> South from Blakeney heading out to Etloe.
This might help align the census with a map / specific cottage.
In 1911 census the Millend dwellings are :-
Albert Cole Lowfield
Jane Fox in Fair View
Eliza Lane abt 1844 Newnham, Gloucestershire Head Awre, Gloucestershire
Sarah Walters abt 1854 Ross, Herefordshire Head Awre, Gloucestershire

Thank you so much, I was trying to work out which way the census was written down, north-south or south-north so thank you for your help. I can get access to the deeds for 3 of the houses so I am hoping that they will enlighten me further!
One of my ultimate goals is to find a picture of Millend Row before the row was built, im not entirely sure of the exact date of building, the largest house dates from somewhere in the 1700s but the rest of the terrace was added during the 1800's,I am well aware that such a photograph probably doesnt exist, but I wont give up hope!

I think you will be very lucky to find any before about 1850, Fox Talbot ( regarded by many as the inventor of modern photography) was capturing images around the late 1830's. A painting might exist :-)

There are quite a few references in the BNA to a William KNOCKER of Dover, including his election as Mayor in 1832. There are also references to a John B. KNOCKER of Dover, including his apparent period as a bank manager. If these are of interest I can list a few details.
Millend, Blakeney
William Bennett from Wilxford was my great great great grandfather. At some point my family lived in Birmingham House.
Best wishes.
