Forest of Dean Kear Families question (General)

Help

I live in California, at the end of a long migration, which I believe to have begun in the Forest of Dean. I am a direct lineal descendant of a Peter Kear, born in New York in 1765. I cannot find a direct link across to the old country. A name that is used is "Jonathan Peter Kear" and listed as born in Cardiff Wales.

Any help would be appreciated.
