Mary Elizabeth Wager cannot find on Census 1891-1911 (General)
by pclark , Friday, September 21, 2012, 12:41 (4441 days ago)
Hi
I have Mary Elizabeth Wager nee Parker born 1861 in Yorkley. I have her up to the 1881 census in Stroud as Elizabeth Parker working as a cook.
In the same year she marries I believe Richard John Charles Wager. He dies in 1893.
A Mary E Wager death is recorded in 1920 age 59.
Have thought of every spelling I can think of but cannot seem to find them.

Hi Pete,
I havent got full Ancestry access but looking at the free 1911 Census, plus LDS FAmily Search hasnt been too forthcoming as you say. You probably already have done, but have you tried tracking Richard thro the Census ?, do you have his birth or birthplace at all ?. Also, dont forget (for Yorkley) to search Monnmouthshire/Wales not just Glos. According to the above sites Weager & Wagner are possible? spelling variants. There certainly appears to be a lot of Wagers in the Stroud area according to LDS, altho no Richard yet, so maybe thats where he met Mary the cook. Have you checked the neighbouring households to hers on Stroud census?.
(Its odd, I'd have wagered ! this to be a rare name, proven wrong yet again!).
Hope this helps

Hi,
Firstly thanks for the reply,
Richard was born in 1861 reg district of Gloucester.Looking at the Wager name on FreeBMD some of them do seem to be around Stroud/Gloucester area.
Haven't tried Weager, so will give that a go.

Hi Pete,
if you havent pls look again at my updated post above, there some contradiction in your dates for Richard I think.
Also, I'm assuming you dont have Ancestry access ?.
If not, dont forget its free search is still very usefull giving lots of clues.
eg I've searched Census returns for Richard John Charles Wager born 1861 and residing around the Stroud Area. This gives a LOT of hits for CHARLES Wagers including one in the key 1891 year with spouse Mary. Of course these were very popular/common names so may not be our couple but...
I do think its worth trying to track Richard thro the census' and hopefully you'll find Mary on the way, also see what name he uses for himself if not Richard.
Cannot find her in the free 1911 Census, perhaps moved away from the area ?
VERY Sadly I havent got more time now (have to go and change my antifreeze yippee), but searching the laborious but effective LDS site maybe worth your while if you donm't have other census access. Takes a while to input the various parameter filters (I suggests place and year/decade of birth and nowt else), but can easily skim thro the various hits which do include variations of name spelling.

Sarah LONG/Charles WAGER + 1911 census???
by pclark , Friday, September 21, 2012, 16:46 (4441 days ago) @ m p griffiths
I looked at that 1911 census as well, it's the Scotland bit which puts me off as its cant be misread as anything else other than what it is.
The 1891 census gives it as well
There is always the possible wrong People to start with, only way to fully prove the Wager/Parker marriage is a certificate
