Hello

I am trying to trace my great grandfather Arthur William Hible born in 1866 from the Forest of Dean. The parish records have not identified him. He moved to Sheffield and is located on the census age 45yrs with his uncle of the same age and surname. There are several entries in High Green Sheffield for the families "Hible" from the Forest of Dean and the family remains here today. However my grandfather was illegitamate and did not have his fathers name and was called Hogan.

I wonder why I cannot find an entry for Hible-I suspect that they were C of E religion?

Slowhands you are wonderful!! I could get emotional! This is a double whammy for me as my grandfathers birth certificate arrived today and I now have his mothers name. I am new to this but is'nt it exciting to get a window into the past of loved ones and ancestors.
