Elizabeth BROBYN born 1827 Westbury on Severn (General)

On the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses the place of birth for my ancestor Elizabeth Brobyn was Westbury, Gloucestershire. Elizabeth married James Gay sometime before the birth of their daughter Elizabeth, my great great grandmother, in Newport (Mon) in 1848. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate any records of her marriage to James Gay so I don't have a name for Elizabeth's father. That is why I have turned to this excellent website.

There is a baptism record for an Elizabeth Brobent for 14 October 1827. She is the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth. Daniel and Elizabeth also appear, with their other children, on the 1841 census in Pope's Hill, with the surname 'Brobin.'

I am hopeful that this Elizabeth is my Elizabeth who married James Gay. One of Elizabeth and James' sons named their firstborn son Daniel so this is a possible tenuous link to the Brobins of Pope's Hill.

Is this plausible or just wishful thinking?

Thanks

Marc

On the 1841 Census, there is a Son William aged 15 - and he was christened as William BROBENT - 11 january 1824, Westbury - parents Daniel & Elizabeth

Looking at Public Members Tree, no-one appears to have found his brother? William GAY's marriage to Margaret (also living in St Woollos and with James later census)

Gay Family - including Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

1851 Census for St. Woollos - James GAY age 27, born Wiltshire, Broughton and Elizabeth age 28 c1823 - on the 1841 Census with Daniel - Elizabeth is aged 14)

(Looking at Gloucestershire BDM for children of Daniel & Elizabeth BROBEN - appears the mother's maiden name is KNIGHT and then again BARROW)

---

Daniel BROBIN - Bachelor, residence: Aston Ingham in the County of Hereford

married

Elizabeth BARROW - Spinster, residence: ditto

witnesses: William HILL and Thos. AWBERY

(may be accents played a part - as the BROBIN's were from Hereford?)
