William & Hannah (Trigg) Morgan (General)
I have William Morgan (abt 1797-1887) and Hannah Trigg (abt 1794-1879). I do not have their marriage date and I am uncertain about their children, except these:
Louisa Mary Morgan, 11 May 1826 (Bap. 15 May 1826) in Mitcheldean
Fanny Eleanor Morgan, Apr 1838 (Bap. 16 Apr 1838 in Ross on Wye.
On the 1841 Census at Brook House, Clifford (Hay), I have:
William age 40, Hannah age 40, Mary & Thomas age 10 and John age 4.
BUT there are also William & Hannah Morgan living with James (67) and Ann (72) Trigg and Robert Trigg (40). This may be the correct William and Hannah?
Also on the 1841 Census but at Church Street, Monmouth (Town) I have the two Morgan sisters, Louisa age 15 and Fanny age 3. With them are John Parsons 20 and Eliza Jones 15. (John later appears as a witness at Louisa's marriage.)
On the 1851 Census, Fanny, age 13, is with William and Hannah Morgan at Broad Street, Ross.
By this time, Louisa is married to Thomas Davey and they live at Brook Cottage, Ross, with their first three children: Emily, William & Charles.
I would appreciate finding more decisive data. Perhaps another descendant could help?
Fanny Eleanor Morgan eventually married Robert Michael Card and my husband was a descendant of theirs.

There is information of Gloucestershire Rootsweb 15 April 2000- and I quote
'Hempsted Marriages - there is something odd about this parish. It was Brian Frith who told me (Alan Merryweather) that Hempstead was unusual - probably some kind of centre for clandestine type marriages as he often found people coming from far away to marry there. This was why he did a complete transcript (1812-1837 from memory) incl witnesses. This was/is in the GLS RO. There are pecularities such as few family witnesses; and a couple marrying standing in as witnesses for the next pair to marry etc etc'

Oh my!! Thank you so much, M P Griffiths, for your rapid and data-filled reply.
It is obvious, at a quick glance, that these people led complicated and intertwined lives. I have some of the facts but will now work on all you have told me.
If I have the right William Morgan, he spend several years in the Army. I came across his discharge papers on the National Archives, which seem to apply to "our" William:
"William Morgan born Ross, Herefordshire. Served in 95th Foot Regiment, 3rd Foot Guards. Discharged aged 40."
The actual papers show his birthplace as "St John's, in or near the Town of Hereford"
and his service as from 1791 to 1802 in the 2nd Dragoon Guards, and 1803 to 1813 in the 3rd Foot Guards. He was discharged (papers signed) 20 January 1813 as "Old and Worn Out". Since he served his King, George III, it would be interesting to find where he served - - but first I must sort out all these people!
My connection is through Fanny Eleanor Morgan who married Robert Michael Card. The Card descendants have been well-researched and we are now in touch with English, Canadian, New Zealand and Uruguayan branches.
I think I need to draw up a time-line to better understand the Morgans!!
Thanks again - these on-line Forums are so very helpful. Janice
William MORGAN & Hannah PARSONS
To M P Griffiths:
As I work my way through the various relationships of William Morgan I am beginning to think that the Hannah I have as his wife (Hannah Trigg, daughter of James and Ann Trigg) could be wrong!
On the 1841 Census, William (40) and Hannah (47) Morgan are living with James (67) and Ann Trigg (72) and Robert Trigg (40).
I know that the earlier Census records can be somewhat inaccurate in both spelling and ages recorded, but the above was what I based my Morgan/Trigg relationship on.
I am getting totally confused now!! Perhaps it was Hannah PARSONS, not Hannah TRIGG, who was William's wife!! I would be grateful if you could work through this with me!
I am wondering now about the military record of a William Morgan - he was supposed to be 40 when he was discharged in 1813. But again, he could hardly have been 40 again in 1841, so he might not be "our" William! Maybe his father???
Sincerely - Janice

The birth certificate of Fanny Eleanor MORGAN - born April 1838 at Ross on Wye - could obviously give the correct mother's maiden name, although Fanny does carry the middle name of Eleanor which is promising.
