Slowhands, are you suggesting that Crossy may have things confused ???.

I ask as, before seeing your replies, I started searching the 1881 Census UK-wide for Mary Ann West born abt 1840/1850s, spouse William. Where-ever I looked I kept coming back to the following possibilities with the first being my strong favourite, thinking maybe it was a transcription error and should read Mary not Sarah. On now seeing your replies I now realise it seems to match your first posted marriage;

When I realised this seemed to match your 1872 Marriage, I tried to find the original marriage as posted by Crossy, as I suspect you have tried too. However according to FreeBMD and GlosBMD the only W-o-S 1872 Marriages are;
