Wow !, thanks gents, great work, very cunning indeed.

First, for Angela's benefit, the 1881 Census transcript posted by supersleuth Slowhands quoting "Wolverston Glos" as place of birth for John should read Woolaston, on the Severn very near Lydney & Whitecroft (I don't know any Wolverston in our County at all).

Secondly, I've tried searching out John in my 1851 Census cd and think this is him, a close match for Paul's suggestion born 1836. (I cannot see any households with a George in too). As well as being clearly the best match wrt parents, witness & locality out of several "possibles" in the Census, it also nicely echos the 1881 mention of Woolaston.

A shame they're not miners but this is before the mining boon really took off. Given the size of the family perhaps no surprise if one of the eldest brothers might have flown the nest ?

I've also found the above household on my 1841 Census cd, not the best quality scan but it's clear that the oldest child present is Sarah, sadly no George or even James & Daniel in this instance, perhaps they are all together elsewhere ?.

Many and more of the above Baptisms can be found on this FoD site's PRs, the earliest are at Hewelsfield Chapel with the family resident in the Hart Hill & Brockweir Common areas.
