Children Of John Selwyn c 1790 at Westbury (General)

by normanelkins @, Monday, August 05, 2013, 17:06 (4122 days ago)

The John Selwyn who married Ann Coopey at Newnham in 1808 I believe had 5 children.
The children were George 1809,Daniel 1811,Selwyn 1812,Mary Ann 1814 and Jacob 1815.
All were baptised at Westbury on Severn.
I can't find any signs for George an Mary Ann after their baptism, the remainder led well documented lives.
Please can anyone point me towards any information about the lost pair?

George SELWYN of Westbury, Gaol 1838

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Monday, August 05, 2013, 19:38 (4122 days ago) @ slowhands

From Glos Archives Genealogical database:

Selwyn, George
Age: 30
Date of Committal: 26 Oct 1838
Public address: Westbury
Occupation: labourer
Document Ref: Q/Gc5/6

Also committed the same date was Selwyn, Selwyn age 26, Labourer of Westbury.
Same Doc Ref as above, further suggesting these two are relatives ?. Both ages match your believed birthdates.

Other records listed:
Selwyn Selwyn, Apprentice, 1821.
Selwyn Selwyn, Dealer of Westbury On Severn, age 53, committed gaol 30 Jun 1864.

I recommend further searching of this database.
eg Jacob Selwyn, a yeoman in 1843

Mary Ann SELWYN 1811 - 1883

Thank you for this and your earlier reply concerning George Selwyn.

I have just come back from GFHS and can find no signs of George in their indices. Just in case a visit to the Archives will be the next step.

Mary Ann who was Married to Cornelius Selwyn seems an unlikley candidate to me, unless she was a cousin.
Thanks for your support and interest

Mary Ann SELWYN buried W-o-S 1883

Jeff
Thanks for both of your messages
The items about George and Selwyn are interesting. I hope somewhere there is more information waiting to be found.
I suspect your Mary Ann candidate is the wife of Cornelius Selwyn and was not a Selwyn at birth.
Thanks for your interest and Help

Mary Ann SELWYN buried W-o-S 1883

There is a Mary Ann Selwyn buried at Churcham on 7 Dec 1820, she was 6 years old when she died which ties in with her baptism on 20/2/1814.

Cornelius was the son of John and Ann. He married Mary Ann Long at St John the Baptist church Northgate Glos on 9/4/1846. They had 3 sons Samuel, Jasper and George.

Wendy
Thanks for that
I think the parents of Mary Ann who were John Selwyn and Ann ne Coopey were married Westbury in 1808. I think it is likely that Cornelius was a sibling of Mary Ann since his parents were John and Ann. Mary Ann had 4 siblings born between 1809 and 1815.
It would be nice to prove the link between Mary and Cornelius

Thanks again
