Clearwell Burials- Richard Baker 1883 (General)

by woolcomber65 @, Monday, August 19, 2013, 19:06 (4108 days ago)

I have found the record for the burial of Richard Baker, age 28, in the burial records for Clearwell in Jan 1883.

I recently went to Clearwell to see if I could find the grave but found that the church there had no gravestones. Does anyone have information as to where people from the Clearwell area may have been buried.

Thanks for any help

There is no listing of a grave memorial for Richard Baker, died 1883, in the record of memorial inscriptions made by the Forest of Dean Branch of the Gloucestershire Family History Society. He lies in an unmarked grave.

Thanks Harry, I was hoping that there may have been a stone for him. Your search saves me another trip to Clearwell. Thanks again

It was quite common not to have grave stones so don't give up, just look for other evidence. When I started out on this family history hobby I went to lots of graveyards and couldn't find any stones of people buried there and have since realised that other resources or the cemetery burial record itself are better sources. Best wishes for your search, hope you don't find it as addictive as I do!

Thanks for your encouragement. I imagine that the cost of a headstone was way outside the income of many families in those days, as it is for many today.
