Performance Issues (General)
by slowhands , proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Thursday, November 21, 2013, 08:00 (4015 days ago)
Just to let you know that the Team are aware of a number of performance issues on the site and are discussing them with our Hosting provider.
1/ User registration / passwords
2/ Forum - time outs/ internal server errors
3/ Screen not updating or displaying a previous unedited view - usually just Refresh with explorer and things re-sync
In general the performance seems to be worst 11:00 - 14:00 UK time and 17:00 - 20:00 UK time
Please bear with us whilst we get to the root cause and rectify this
regards
the Team

Is there a problem with parish records? For the last 2 days every time I click the link (after login) it tells me only registered users can search. It just keeps on repeating this and sending me around in circles.
Performance Issues - more specific information please

I had the same issue last night/today. Before midnight everything seemed to be OK. Immediately after midnight the problem arose. Today everything looks fine.
Performance Issues - Signing In / Cookies advice
by admin2 , Monday, December 23, 2013, 18:27 (3982 days ago) @ Paul Andrews
We recognise that problems remain with the website and we are taking steps to overcome them. The two main issues appear to be related to access to resources such as Parish Records and finding a session finished when submitting a posting to the Forum. We suggest the best way to deal with these is as follows:
Access to resources such as Parish Records:
First of all check that you have Cookies enabled (http://www.forest-of-dean.net/index.php/help-faq#faq3 ) and that you have agreed to accept cookies - the link is on the front page.
Secondly if you have logged in and clicking on "Search Parish Records" is answered by "Only registered users can view this page! Please Log-in or Register." then do not logout but login again from that page.
Session finished/Posting to the Forum:
We strongly recommend you prepare your post in a text file and when completed, login and copy and paste the item to the online form. We do not have any control over the length of a session as it is dictated by the level of activity at the time.

Michael, Thanks for your response.
Access to resources such as Parish Records:
I did exactly as you described and was still sent in circles.
Session finished/Posting to the Forum:
Yes. Even when I respond immediately, with a small post, I find that the session has ended.

Thanks for your comments and I would add that I am not in any way being sarcastic.
I have tested the actions that I have outlined in my note and they worked for me and have also worked for others. As for the latter issue this was a problem with the old site. Apart from that I really do not have any other answers at the moment other than to move the site to another Host. The team is due to meet in January when we will discuss the issues and decide what actions to take.

The volunteers who run the Trust and its web site would love to be able to answer this with a specific no of days/weeks, however .....
It is being worked on, and is linked to the transfer of the site from America to the UK, and the changes of underlying hardware and software that make up the site as you see it. Despite testing before we cut across, the problems that we are seeing are almost certainly linked to the number of other users sharing the platform that we are hosted on. Despite assurances from our hosting provider that they are weeding out rogue users we are being impacted ( as well as other users) The solution is clear now we have to provision some time ( actually a lot) to do the work.
regards
the Trust team

I can't find anybody on the Parish registers and before I could. The surname is Church, which seems to confuse things. I did get St. Peter's Parish for Peter Church. I want the burial records of Sarah Church. I got them from this site before.
It doesn't let me log in even with the new password you gave me. Then it blocked me because the password didn't work. I can't tell if I'm logged in.

Having trouble moving from one area to the other. I try to come out of the forum and am given a "fault" message and "you have to sign in/register to use this". It is annoying at times. Can you tell me if this is being sorted?
Thanks.
