Website downtime (General)

Many of you will have noticed that the website has been offline for some hours. This was the initial message from our hosts:

"Earlier this morning, we experienced a brief interruption of primary power to our sites due to an external infrastructure issue. Our datacentres switched over to UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) power whilst our backup generators started up for prolonged backup power. Mains power to the site returned after a few moments, however although power was quickly fully restored to both datacentres we experienced a network issue that occurred as a result of this interruption to service.

This affected all our services. Including our communication systems and status page.

Our engineers have already restored many of our services, however some services are still offline and investigation is ongoing. We will continue to update this status page as further information becomes available, and a full root cause analysis will be carried out.

We would like to take the opportunity to sincerely apologise for the disruption this has caused, and to thank you for your patience."

There have been other messages since which clearly shows there was a major problem and we are sorry that this has resulted in valuable weekend research time not being available to you.

Website downtime

Are there still problems with access to the website, in particular Parish Records?

I have tried several times on both my Windows 7 PC and Windows 7 laptop to do a search in the parish records having successfully logged in but keep getting an error message asking me to login again.

I have managed to access the parish records using my iPad but this is not as useful as using my PC.

I am pleased to say that the website is fully operational. The issue you refer to appears to have been experienced by a few and guidelines have been posted which I will repeat here:

Access to resources such as Parish Records:
First of all check that you have Cookies enabled (http://www.forest-of-dean.net/index.php/help-faq#faq3 ) and that you have agreed to accept cookies - the link is on the front page.
Secondly if you have logged in and clicking on "Search Parish Records" is answered by "Only registered users can view this page! Please Log-in or Register." then do not logout but login again from that page.

We hope this is of help.
