Will from Charlton Kings, Glos (General)

by joodyanne @, Sunday, January 19, 2014, 09:09 (3956 days ago)

I'm not very familiar with this site, but am looking for a Will for Mary Evans (wife of Joseph Evans. She died in 1854 at Charlton Kings, Glos. and would have been aged about 76. Her maiden name I think was Miller

We do not appear to have the Will of Mary Evans and it is not listed in the Gloucester Archives Genealogy database. I notice that her husband died in 1864 and the following entry is in the National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966:
1869, 6 August - The Will of Joseph Evans late of Charlton Kings in the County of Gloucester Nurseryman deceased who died 16 August 1864 at Charlton Kings aforesaid was proved at Gloucester by the oath of Mary Ann Evans of Charlton Kings aforesaid Spinster the Daughter the Sole Executrix.
Effects under £200.

It is possible that a transcript of the Will may exist at Gloucester Archives but because Joseph was not from or living in the Forest of Dean it has not been included in the database on this website.

If you wish to contact Gloucester Archives then follow this link:

Good luck

Will of Elizabeth EVANS, died 1808 Charlton Kings ?

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Sunday, January 19, 2014, 14:52 (3956 days ago) @ shepway

Within the aforementioned Gloucester Archives site is their Geneological Database which is well worth searching, among other records it includes summaries of Wills they hold in archive which may be ordered.

I suggest you search more fully than I have, sadly my quick look didn't find Wills for your Joseph or Mary, although they do have a will for Elizabeth Evans, widow of Charlton Kings who died in 1808.

From the baptism index after 1813 - I can see

Mary Ann - 29 October 1815 at Gloucester St Michael - parents Joseph (Gardener) & Mary (which is the same place as the marriage)

a daughter Harriet born - 1 February 1818 - Upton St Leonard, Joseph (occupation: Gardener) and Mary

1861 Census, Charlton Kings, Park Street

Joseph EVANS - 75 - Widower, retired Nursery man, born Elderfield, Worcs
Mary Ann EVANS - daughter - 45 - seamstress, born Gloucester

on the 1851 census, Mary Ann says she born born Glos. St Michael

and Mary (age 72) = c 1779 says she was born, Glos. Mitcheldean

Mary MILLER

by MPGriffiths @, Monday, January 20, 2014, 10:11 (3955 days ago) @ joodyanne

On the 1851 census - Mary EVANS age 72 - possibly MILLER says she was born in Mitcheldean c1779

?

Fod Records, baptism at Mitcheldean - 19 June 1777

Mary MILLER, parents James & Mary

As Joseph is only 63 on the 1851 census - she was probably knocking a couple of years off her age!

1841 Census, Charlton Kings

Joseph Evans 50
Mary EVANS 60
Harriett - 20 (christened 1 February 1818, Upton St. Leonard, Joseph (Gardener & Mary)

---

Church of Latter Day Saints, baptisms at Glos St Michael - parents Joseph & Mary

Mary - christened - 10 October 1810 buried 15 January 1812
Elizabeth - christened - 6 December 1812

Mary MILLER

MPGriffiths, Someone suggested I look for the Will as extra proof. Guess it is not necessary, and there doesn't appear to be a Will anyway.

Thank you for your input.

Mary MILLER
