looking for lodge family (General)

I have been researching my fathers family whom I had assumed were from the Yorkshire area as my dad and his brothers were all yorkshiremen. However I now know my grandfather Arthur Lodge was born in the forest of Dean and then at the age of 19 moved up to Yorkshire, he was a miner. The 1901 census shows he had 5 brothers and one sister and I am looking to trace members of their families. His mother Hannah and Father Henry are buried in St James Bream along with his brother Leslie who died of wounds sustained in WW1,also brother earnest The other brothers were Bertie b.1893 Frederick b.1883 Ralph b.1900 and sister rose b.1887. I have discovered Rose married a James Davies they had a daughter Nancy beryl who married a David H merry and a son Leslie Kenneth, they are both buried in St James Bream. That's about as far as I have got, such a shame as Nancy only died at the end of 2010 at the grand age of 91 and I only started looking for the family in 2011, I am wondering if anyone could assist in searching for any children of Nancy Merry, which may lead me to find other members of my Gt grand fathers children. It would be so good to find anyone on my fathers side I am the only one known apart from one girl a cousin my fathers brothers daughter, I will be so grateful for any help....colin lodge

Hi Thanks for the prompt reply, I should have said that I did have bits of information and do have the info you mentioned, but many thanks anyway,I am thinking I will go down the route of tracing nancy merrys family as she did remain in the fod, will be visiting the area next monday, of course I have no idea if any of the family are still there Im hoping once I get a lead it will help, all I do know is that there could be family possibly around my age of 66, exactly where remains to be seen.Im thinking also that as Nancy and her brother kenneth were buried in St James there could be family locally, so will do some research next week, thanks again.

Reference Glos BMD Index entry:
Groom Surname Groom Forename Bride Surname Bride Forename District Parish Building Year Register Entry
MERRY Darrel Henry DAVIES Nancy Beryl Forest of Dean Bream St James 1949 7 33
As this was queried and a suggestion made that it should be David Henry MERRY as in FreeBMD index the entry in the original register has been checked. The name is definitely Darrel and it is signed Darrel.
This is his birth registration:
Births Sep 1917

Hi Colin,
I expect you've already seen this old photo website, it can be searched altho most hits for Lodge refer to buildings not people. However for starters,
Parish Magazine of Bream St James Nov 1928 mentions a "R.Lodge" as Churchwarden etc on the first page, he may be mentioned again within the text, is this one of yours ?.

This photo of Bream band c1917 has a young man "A.Lodge" in the back row(cornet?)
http://www.sungreen.co.uk/_Bream/BreamBand_RisingSun1917.htm
And these photo of Bells Pupils at School and at Newland in 1962/63 include a young Colin Lodge, is this you ? [If so then I see we shared some teachers, Messrs Davis(woodwork), Quayle(physics) and Margerison(History) finished their careers (or were finished!?) teaching me at RFDGS about 1973. Also Colin Evans, a lifelong family-friend and sadly-missed, nextdoorneighbours to us at Cinderford, one of his sons was my best man, a lovely family].

Hi Jefff..Thanks for all the info, No I hadn't seen this photo site but I had seen various photos, and allen with the cornet is probably one of my family, a cousin of my grandfathers. Any other references to myself were false..what me at a grammer school! The R lodge is not my family, although I still have to research my grandfathers brothers Ralph,Frederick and Bertie still as they may well have family and could well be those that you refer to in 1962-63, I am actively searching and believe I have my first break now, which may lead me to these family members family whereabouts.

Hi
I'm sorry to say that I am pretty certain that neither Nancy nor her brother Ken had any children.
There was a lady called Edna Lodge in Bream.Does that name have any meaning for you?
Edna Lodge, Bream

Could this be Edna, does the age seem correct, it seems the correct area ?

Hello Olwyn, Thanks for your input, it would be interesting to know why you believe that nancy merry had no children, I only ask as I have just in the last 12 hours by a sheer fluke managed to contact a niece of Nancys, and it appears that nancy did have one daughter, as for Kenneth I do not know. Nancy was the daughter of Rose Davies nee lodge who had 6 brothers,Arthur my grandfather,Leslie and Earnest Edwin both fought in WW1 and sadly died, bertie who married, Ralph Im really stuck on and frederick also have no info there. At least I have a link to persue with nancys daughter which I will do in due time, I have also found via the 1881 census Henrys father and mother that will be george and fanny, and looking to find where they may be buried, if you can help.Looks like george had 4 other brothers edwin, albert,George b, and Allen, I am yet to find out if they have family
My regards Colin lodge

Hi Colin,
sorry for being lazy and not rereading your posts - when you say you're looking for your ancestors graves, I presume you'll be visiting Bream St James Churchyard ?. I ask as my quick internet search for it gave a link to it from the CWGC website, no doubt you've seen their pages.
http://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/38684/BREAM%20(ST.%20JAMES)%20CHURCHYARD
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/359037/LODGE,%20LESLIE%20H
I guess you have other ancestors buried there, do you have details/map/etc of their actual grave positions ?. Sadly no details on the GlosFHS cd http://gfhs.org.uk/products-page/cddvd/monumental-inscription-2003-2/
Have you contacted the Church itself to check access is ok, they may have a grave map that can help your search ?. http://www.breamchurch.org.uk/
Again apologies for probably stating the obvious, but i think you said you're visiting soon and am just trying to best help if possible.
atb Jeff, hope your visit to the area goes very well

Yes thanks jeff have been to St James in 2012 and seen the graves of Hannah and Henry lodge also leslie and earnest Edwin also Nancy davies with Leslie K davies with norman sadly died aged just 4 years. I don't believe there are any other members in the churchyard there could be,so I have much work to do to search out the rest of the family, along with hopefully help from the fod forum, which has been most helpful. I am visiting bream next Monday pm and Tuesday am and will be doing a hands on search to see if maybe some elderly residents may know something.
