Hi Dan
I have been researching the Bailey family at Wheatenhurst for some years. My family are descended from William Bailey of Elmore who died 1579.

There is some excellent research available. On line (www.whaite.com) is Joy Whaite's family history "From Little Dean to Enoggera" which encompasses Robin Roberts family history of 16th / 17th century family research. Chapter 2 provides a considerable amount of data on the Baileys of Wheatenhurst.

There is a book called "The Family Saga" published by Marie Lawry which traces her branch of the same family in the 18th/19th century that emigrated to New Zealand.
Most of the above research was conducted in the 1990's. Since then there has been more information available which enhances the above above.

The Heralds Visitation of Gloucester 1682 - 1684 (available on Google Books) provides information on another branch of the family in Wheatenhurst who became lords of the manor of Wheatenhurst, and later Fretherne.Again, they were clothiers. Reference to this branch of the family (John, William and Anselm) is recorded in the British History, an on line volume covering Gloucestershire, in the chapter for Wheatenhurst.

Also, Ancestry.co.uk has recently publish Wills & Probate records for Gloucestershire on line which provides Wills of several Baileys (i.e. Bayly, Bailey, Bayley, Baylye, Baley) which are connected to your branch of the family tree.

I also have a digitised copy of the Wheatenhurst Parish Register (or what’s left of it), covering 1538 to 1660, which I have transcribed. Plus copies of several Wills, most of which were provided by Gloucestershire Archives. Happy to provide details.

Regards

Keith Bailey
