The Forest of Dean is in Gloucestershire and this website covers this area not Sussex
If you belong to Ancestry, (and not certain whether your tree is on there?) - it would seem John ROWLES - born 11 May 1756 - Sussex County, England
married
Mary WHIPPO - Washington, Maryland, United States - in 1777
and then
in 1792 married Lyida WHIPPO
Death: 1818 - Jordan, Clearfield, Pennsylvania

Looking at Rootsweb (Eileen's Family Tree).
John ROWLES was born in 1756 at Sussex; John's birthplace is reported to be Sussex County. It could have been Sussex England, or Sussex County Delaware. He was a private serving in the chester County Militia 1780 and 1781 etc.
Rootsweb Sussex would be the best website to contact not Gloucestershire.
