Hi, does anyone know how I can find the cause of death please as this relative who died very young. I doubt if he had a will, but if anyone knows how I could research about him, his wife Harriet Hulbert and his three daughters Frances,( who also died very young. )The other daughters Anne and Mary were orphaned and had to live with the Hulberts .
Thank you

On Ancestry under Gloucestershire, England Wills 1540-1858 there are two Horlick wills in Cranham. Thomas Horlick wife Frances 1837 and John Horlick wife Margaret 1795 with William Hulbert as witness. Hope this helps.

Liz,
I currently have a subscription to the British Newspaper Archive so thought I'd search for newspaper articles relating to Thomas Horlick that might shed some light on his early death. I've done a nationwide search on just "Horlick" covering 1820-40, and turned up the following article in the Cheltenham Chronicle dated 2 August 1838.
"Inquests lately taken before J Mountain Esq, Coroner.
[...]
at Siddington, on the body of Thomas Horlick, who was killed by the kick of a horse"
Is this your man? You didn't mention locations, but I've googled Siddington and it's a couple of miles south of Cirencester, if this fits.
I also came across this marriage announcement, which may be relevant to your research. It's taken from the Coventry Herald dated 10 October 1834.
"On the 1st inst, at Middle, Robert Potts Esq BA of Trinity College, Cambridge, to Anna Horlick, second daughter of Charles Hulbert Esq, of Providence Grove near Shrewsbury."
After drawing a blank on Google maps, the Genuki website came to my rescue and said that Middle was 8 miles north-west of Shrewsbury on the Ellesmere road. And then, bingo - found it! The village is now called MYDDLE.

Thanks Jane that's very nice of you to check that out for me. Thomas was only 29 when he died so I wondered what had killed him so young. Not sure if the Hulberts you mentioned are the same as mine cus Thomas wife was Harriet Hulbert and after Thomas, she married a Preston. I think the families were based in the Cheltenham area as we'll. Cirencester fits for Thomas but Maybe not Shrewsbury. will still check that link out though too, thanks again ,regards Liz

GFHS burial index records these two burials,
Thomas Horlick, aged 28, 4th April 1835, Cranham
Thomas Horlick, aged 16, 8th June 1838, Siddington
Because of the ages I wonder if the Cranham one is the better bet.

Thanks for that Mike, I think you are right. When I rechecked what I know about Thomas, he was born and died in Cranham. His first daughter , Frances died a year later, so maybe they caught something nasty rather than an accident.
