struggling with Sarah BEVAN wife of John BEVAN (General)
I wonder if someone can help me sort something out.
I have John BEVAN (a son of William BEVAN) born 1843 who married Sarah MORGAN of Thornbury, Gloucestershire in June Q of 1864 in Gloucester, England.
then I have John BEVAN (a son of William BEVAN) born 1843 who married Sarah TERRITT born Ruspidge, Gloucester at Flaxley 14th Sept 1874
(witnesses were James BEVAN and Emily BEVAN.... two of John's siblings names)
in the 1871 census we have
John BEVAN
Sarah his wife
Albert son abt 1869
Virginia daughter abt 1870
Arthur son abt 1871
then in the 1881 census
33 Woodside Rd Cinderford
John BEVAN abt 1844 Cinderford (East Dean), Gloucestershire, England Head Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Sarah Bevan abt 1847 Ruspidge, Gloucestershire, England Wife Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Albert Bevan abt 1869 Ruspidge, Gloucestershire, England Son Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Prudence V. Bevan abt 1873 Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England Daughter Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Sarah A. Bevan abt 1875 Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England Daughter Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Ernest F. Bevan abt 1877 Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England Son Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Agnes Bevan abt 1879 Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England Daughter Flaxley, Gloucestershire
Arthur J. Bevan Cinderford, Gloucestershire, England Son Flaxley, Gloucestershire
can someone help me and take a look at the actual records and work out what is happening.
did the first Sarah die and then John married the second Sarah?
or are these two different families that I have got mixed up? (although they have used the same children's names).... Virginia 1879 and Arthur 1871 have disappeared and been replaced by younger Virginia and Arthur
any help would be appreciated..... thanks

Is very helpful giving the mother's maiden name when a birth is registered. Also for marriages taking place in a Register Office.
For Example
---
TERRETT - Virgena - 1870 - Westbury on Severn, Newnham - no father's surname - mother's name: TERRETT
-----
Prudence V BEVAN abt 1873 Cinderford

And then also from this site:-
All baptised 13/06/1880 at Cinderford with Father John BEVAN and Mother Sarah:-
Prudence Virginia, born 21/03/1873
Sarah Ann, born 07/03/1875
Ernest Frederick, born 20/03/1877
Agnes, born 27/12/1878
Bearing in mind the proximity of Cinderford, Ruspidge and Flaxley together with the Census entries I might choose Sarah TERRITT.

thank you so much.... that is a great site... I've not seen it before.
I've spent hours trying to figure it all out and you and Mike have sorted it within minutes of me putting up the request.
now that you have sorted out the Sarah's for me I am hoping I have the right John BEVAN to match up with William BEVAN and Mary COOK as his parents as both John's are colliers and both born abt 1843 (I'd got it into my head that there was just one John lol).
thank you again :-))

If nothing else this produces you a John, Emily and James of the right ages. Some of the baptisms are on this site but they look to be a family of late baptisers (a batch in 1857 at Cinderford St John, Residence - Woodside).
