Any information on the Holly Tree Beer House which was frequented by my Great Great Grandfather, William Mercy, in the 1850's.It seems to be the place where he, and his criminal cohorts, planned their life of crime which eventually led to his transportation to Western Australia.

It would help the forum if you could give more background information on William MERCY for those who don't have access to Ancestry etc. - including goal 7 August 1850 in Bedfordshire.

William MERCY - 30 - Blacksmith

along with William FENNELE - age 28 - Newnham (understand from forum info has links to William MERCY)

Looking at Gloucestershire Genealogical Database - William FENNELL age 27 of Awre and William MERCY age 29 of Cinderford where charged on the same day i.e. 21 June 1850

'my gggrandfather worked in The White Hart, St Whites, Cinderford, owned by Mr Horlick at the time 1850 - his accomplice, William MERCEY lived directly opposite the White Hart - after a burglery at the home of Alexander HIGGINS'

The BNA mentions a Holly Tree Beer House - located in Sewdley.
