Conviction Registers 1853-1879 (General)
I am trying to pin down my Great Grandfather William Lingings of Alvington. Every census he has a different place of birth - Alvington, Wollaston and also gives different dates of birth between 1834 and 1841. He cannot be found on the 1851 census.
There is a record of Conviction for Assault 3rd April 1854 with a register reference of QGC9/1.
Can anyone tell me where the court was and if the original pages are online?
The Register details "Native of Mill Church, Herefordshire" Can anyone tell me where this is as I cannot find it.
Thanks,

The 1841 Census tells us that William was not born in Gloucestershire. His younger brother James was and the birth registration is in GlosBMD Index:
Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
LINGING James LINGING LINGING FIELD 1839 Forest of Dean Chepstow, Lydney 1 382
A search for a marriage between William Linging and Hannah Field produces this entry on Ancestry:
Name: William Linging
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 26 December 1833
Marriage Place: Allensmore, Hereford, England
Spouse: Hannah Fields
Hannah gives her place of birth as Bodenham, Herefordshire and William Senior as Bacton, Herefordshire.
Mill Church could possibly be Michaelchurch but no evidence to support it.

Many thanks but I already have that info. What I am really looking for is where my Gt Grandfather was actually imprisoned. The conviction record does not say. Even which court might give a clue.
At Bedford Prison, there is a huge database of convicts photographs and that is what I am really hoping to find in his case if ! can.

These records are for Glocester Gaol. If you have a look at the Glos Archives online catalogue they show up under Q/gc/9
There are some prisoner photos held at the Archives but only cover some of the years 1882-1935 under Q/gc/10
If you click on the blue envelope next to my user name and send me a message with your email I can let you have an image of the page that the transcription came from.

Thanks for that - I have got an image of the transcription QGC9/1 concerning William Lingings. But didn't know that it was
Gloucester Jail as I believe he had been working in Herefordshire.
I will see what I can find now. Many thanks.
