1911 Census lookup John Shaw (General)
I would like to thank MP GRiffiths for his input into my question posted 21st October 2013. From that information I have managed to find my Grandfather living in Buenos Aires. I have found his parents marriage records as well, John James and Adelaide Shaw nee' Robinson. Also his and brother Thomas' birth records. The 1895 census you talked about resulted in me finding the Robinsons as well. Laura Annie that I mentioned to be my Grandfather's maiden aunt who was his guardian when he was put into the navy in 1905 used to go back and forth from England to Buenos Aires presumably for holidays. She was a music teacher, never married and every time she came back to England she put her address as : 29 Gwern Berthe Road, Abertillery, Monmouthshire. I believe it is not that far from Coleford.
I have tried to do an address search for the same on the 1901 census but have not had any joy, can't you do that now ? Just curious to see who was living there while she was in England. Once again many thanks...I had been searching for him for 15 years.
Best wishes,
Valerie (N.Z.)

There is a website : Abertillery Family History
You can't do an address search on the 1901 census and at the moment I don't have access to the census returns to check whether the number of the house is listed. Electoral rolls/street directories etc may help.
The actual address is:
Gwern Berthi Road, Cwmtillery, Abertillery, Monmouthshire
If you Google this address - and put in 29 - you will be able to see the actual house.

Thank you so much for that...I found the house and have printed it out for my genealogy record book.
If you do find out any more I would appreciate it very much.
Kind regards
Valerie

This map (1884/1887) shows that Gwern Berthi Road did not exist at that time except, perhaps, as a track. However a place named Gwern Berthi is marked (as Wern Berthi) in a position where the road would be in future years.

In this one (revised 1899) a road is marked but the terrace containing No. 29 is not there yet. It is not named but a place named Gwern Berthi is marked along its course.

In the 1901 Census there is an entry (in the right place as far as I can tell) for,
Gwern Blethe Farm, Abertillery,
Simon COOK, 45, Mar, Farmer,
but no reference to Gwern Berthi Road.
In this map (revised 1915/1916) the road is named and the terrace containing No. 29 has been built. Reference to the farm has disappeared,

I can track no reference to Gwern Berthi Road in the 1911 Census. Schedule No. 1 (Cottage Farm) jumps straight to addresses in Bryn-Morgan Terrace. My suspicion is that the terrace containing No. 29 was not built and the road not named until after 1911. This might mean a wait until the 1921 Census becomes available unless other documentary evidence is forthcoming.

Fantastic Mike, thank you so much for that info. The picture of my family history is starting to take shape and make sense.
Best wishes.
Valerie.
