Trying to trace marriage of Ella May Wilce (b. Lydbrook 1892). She appears in 1911 Census as a maid working in Wimbledon and seems to have died Ella May Bartlett (1977 in Bristol) but can find no trace of a marriage to 'Bartlett'.

No luck with a marriage but this entry from the London Gazette associates an Ella May BARTLETT with Lydbrook. Perhaps she had already reserved a plot in Lydbrook Churchyard.

The policy of the Forest of Dean Family History Trust is to have a cut off date for Parish Records for privacy reasons. They are: Baptisms 90 years, Marriages 70 years, Burials 30 years. Therefore we would expect all burials up to 1985 to be available. There are no records of Bartlett buried at Lydney. Therefore, we must look elsewhere for Ella May's burial. Searching the records of this site I could find no trace of a record for Ella May Wilce/Bartlett.

It seems (from the first response in this thread from Mike Pinchin) that Ella had with others in 1971 made some provision for burial in Lydbrook. Her death was registered in Bristol in 1977 so that wish may not have been fulfilled.

Ella May Bartlett left a will which can be found at:https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
Perhaps this gives details for her interment.

The Lydbrook burial register from 1941 to present is still held by the Church and so has not been transcribed.

Thank you Graham. I should have thought of that, when since 1971 the maximum number of burials added to the register could only be 38.
I am sure grahamc will see this post and yours. The most recent contact for Lydbrook Parish Council I have is:

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by "when since 1971 the maximum number of burials added to the register could only be 38".
Am I likely to get any more information from the Lydbrook Parish Council representative?

The Parish Council is not the correct contact. As far as I am aware the main Burial Ground in Lydbrook is the Churchyard and you would need to contact a Church Representative. The church website is at: http://lydbrook.forestchurch.org.uk
I would also add that I believe there have been few burials in the churchyard in the past 40 years or so as the only space available is in family plots which have not already been filled. The nearest Cemetery is Mile End near Coleford and it opened in 1967 but it would appear that Ella was not buried there.

Thank you for correcting my post which gave details of Lydbrook Parish Council.
Your point about only a few burials in the last 40 years was covered by the second post in this thread, which mentioned the article in the London Gazette dated 23rd December 1971. The article says that Ella May Wilce/Bartlett was entitled to be buried in Lydbrook Churchyard.

Some confirmation of the profession,
BNA Gloucester Journal - Saturday 21 June 1924
At a Children's Court, a Lydbrook lad, 13 years of age, was charged with stealing a lady's bicycle, value £5, the property of Ella May Wilce, an assistant teacher at Joys Green School.—The boy's excuse for the theft was that all his other boy friends had a bicycle and he wanted one as well.—Defendant was bound over under the First Offender's Act, and ordered to pay 30s costs, including damage to the bicycle and his mother was reprimanded by the Bench for permitting the bicycle to remain at her house without taking the trouble to ascertain the owner.

It seems Sydney John Bartlett and his first wife Ova Frances (unknown) divorced between 1930 and 1940. In the 1940 US census Ova Frances age 37 is married to 58 year old Claude H Patcher and living in Douglas, Oregon. With them is Doris Emily Bartlett the child of Sydney John Bartlett and Ova. Doris Emily is described as a stepdaughter to the head of the household.
The last letter of the name Patcher is actually n not r, but, for some reason if I attempt to preview or post the correct spelling I get an error message saying tche(n) not accepted.

Gloucester Journal - Saturday 01 October 1938
LYDBROOK HEAD MISTRESS RESIGNING. At the end of the present week Miss Ella Wilce, head-mistress of Lydbrook Council schools (infant department), will end her duties prior to her departure for America in view of her forthcoming marriage. She will be greatly missed by many local organisations. At the Parish Church she has been a very ardent worker and was chiefly responsible for most of the social gatherings in connection with the church. The British Legion women’s section will also suffer by her departure for she was a most energetic worker for this cause. Periodically she arranged concerts in the village, the artistes being the younger children trained by her and her colleague Miss Wheatstone.

BNA Gloucester Citizen - Saturday 01 October 1938
LOVE THROUGH THE POST
ROMANCE OF FOREST SCHOOLMISTRESS
In few days time a well-known Forest of Dean school headmistress will sail for America to become the wife of an engineer who has been her lover through the post for 17 years. The courtship-by-letter romance had its beginning when they were children. In Lydbrook, where they were born, they spent earlier years romping and laughing within sound of the River Wye. She—Miss E. M. Wilce —left the village to train as teacher. After few years in London she returned to the Forest of Dean to be appointed to the staff of Joys Green school. Seven years ago she was appointed headmistress of the infant department at Lydbrook school. He—Mr. Sidney John Bartlett—left childhood days behind to seek fame and fortune in the U.S.A. From a comparatively humble position he rose to be an Instructional Superintendent of Engineering Public Works. During their long separation, Miss Wilce and Mr. Bartlett have kept in touch with each other through the post; they became engaged, and last December Mr. Bartlett arrived in this country to make final arrangements with his future wife. He returned to America in March. Miss Wilce will sail for America on the " Queen Mary” which leaves on October 13, nine days later she will be married in a pretty vine-covered house in St. Paul, Wisconsin.
A Presentation
Yesterday (Friday) Miss Wilce spent her last hours as schoolmistress: tears were in the eyes of her little pupils they wished her happiness and God speed. On behalf of the infants, Miss P. O. Wheatstone, assistant mistress, presented her with with a canteen of cutlery, and expressed the sorrow which staff and scholars felt at her leaving. Mr. Bennett, school manager for 40 years, was unable to be present, but the Forest of Dean School Managers sent Miss Wilce a letter expressing regret at her resignation, thanking her for the very valuable work she had done at the school, and wishing her every success. In the evening, Miss Wilce, who has been a prominent social worker in Lydbrook, attended a social function given in her honour.

Thank you Mike and Paul for your all your investigations into my question. I haven't yet been able to digest it all and create the full story of Ella and Sydney. There seems to be some discrepancy about the date of birth (or perhaps identity) of Sydney. Two birth dates emerge: 2 Nov 1893 and 22 Nov 1891. The latter would tie up with his baptism in Lydbrook 20 Dec 1891.
A fascinating picture emerges of Ella and her romantic reunion with Sydney
