The 1939 survey (General)
Hello - Has anyone else tried this survey with "Findmypast" It sounded like a good thing and maybe it is, but when I searched and found my mothers family my mum and younger sister are blanked out, my mum died 20 years ago and her sister 13 years ago. I think I saw a note somewhere saying the they stopped updating details in 1991? So if a member of your family died later they might be blocked, and obviously anyone living won't show either.
There is an unblock option which I clicked on, without going back to check (I saw a further charge and wasn't interested) but I think it says you can either ask for a search for anyone not found (£25 to GRO) and you can unblock names by providing a copy of their death certificate, I'm not sure if the same search charge applies, but it's all not as good as I'd hoped.
If you go looking be ready for some terrible transcription errors and omissions. My Beach family in Monmouth doesn't show so I tried the address search and half of Wyesham is missing, the half where my family would be living next to Wyesham House. I couldn't find many addresses for the Kymin where family lived either, but as I looked through the street names I saw some that don't exist including Highview! High View where my great grandparents lived is somehow the place name for most of the Kymin. It happens on the other side of the town Eastry? Having been a postman it rang a bell, and then I knew other house names and Eastry is a house on Manson Lane.
Nr or Near Monmouth is a place name where you'll find The Narth, Trelleck, Mitchell Troy, etc. I've have had a good look to see who's living in some of the streets which was fun, it only shows the head of family or sometimes nobody if all are blocked by age restrictions. It costs about £7 to see one household listed like the pre 1911 census, but foolishly thinking I'd save money paid about £25 to see 5 households and have found one worth seeing so think about it?
