Hi Mike,
your "closest" is better than I've been doing, so well done I say !
Not sure of your method of search, I don't have Ancestry at the mo, so only Familysearch like you. I maybe wrong but there seems to be more than one Charles HUtton in the Ross "area" at abt our time, judging by the census returns ? (not to mention several Chas HAttons too !). Please advise how you found our man's parents - I can only see Charles in the 1841 & 1851 census as an employee, so not in his parents household, nor can I see a Baptism for him, so..?.
Not ! that I don't believe your findings, just want to learn your method, please.

Phil,
Re Charles & Maryanne's children, I cannot see Edwin's baptism, but I have found these;

Name George Hutton
Gender Male
Christening Date 11 Nov 1855
Christening Place Welsh Newton, Hereford, England
Father's Name Charles Hutton
Mother's Name Maryanne

Name Sarah Ann Hutton

Hi Jeff,

A belated welcome back, by the way. It was just a simple search with surname HUTTON (and no forename) with Weonards as the birthplace. I don't know if the result was correct but it's possible.

Yes, there are more Charles HUTTONs in the Ross area at the time. One of them is a hairdresser who appears in the BNA in relation to a stabbing by his brother, Thomas. I don't think he is the correct person though.

Thanks Mike for your kind words, it's nice to be back amongst all you good folk !

Thanks too for explaining your thinking, very smart; it's been sometime since I've used LDS, over-reliant on Ancestry I guess, so thanks for giving me a much-needed refresher course, need to get my grey matter working a bit harder again !.

Yes, I can't fault your logic, if he says that's his birthplace then your suggested parents seems perfectly likely to me, well done sir.

---

Re Charles Hutton the hairdresser, he's listed in the 1856 Post Office Directory of Herefordshire. This is the oldest Directory for this area in the excellent Trade Directories site, hopefully this general link will work.
http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/map/collection/p16445coll4

HUttons listed in this Directory include

"Henry Hutton, fishmonger & poulterer, Corps Cross St, Ross.
John Hutton, Carpenter, Hoarwithy.
Mrs Elizabeth Hutton, Milliner, Hoarwithy. (John's wife?)
C.Hutton, Hairdresser, Gloster Rd, Ross.
T.Hutton, Lodginghouse keeper, Bye St, Hereford.

Hopefully these maybe of some help/interest to Phil.

James & Elizabeth HUTTON, Llangarren, 1841

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Sunday, November 22, 2015, 01:11 (3283 days ago) @ Mike Pinchin

Mike, here they are in 1841 ref Familysearch

Event Type Census
Event Date 1841
Event Place Llangarron, Herefordshire, England
Residence Note Old Pounds

HOUSEHOLD ROLE GENDER AGE BIRTHPLACE

James Hutton M 40-44 Herefordshire
Elizabeth Hutton F 36-40 Herefordshire
Elizabeth Hutton F 12 Herefordshire
Harriet Hutton F 10 Herefordshire
James Hutton M 7 Herefordshire
Eliza Hutton F 5 Herefordshire
Emma Hutton F 2 Herefordshire

"England and Wales Census, 1841,FamilySearch"

Searching the 1861 Census, albeit individually, suggests the parents are still In Llangarron;

James born 1801, Much Dewchurch, Herefordshire
Elzabeth born 1805, Garway, Herefordshire.

Searching LDS again appears to give James' parents thus;

Name James Hutton
Gender Male
Christening Date 1802
Christening Place MUCH DEWCHURCH, HEREFORD, ENGLAND
Father's Name Nicholas Hutton
Mother's Name Catharine

Which gives;
Name Nicholas Hutton
Spouse's Name Catharine Watkins
Event Date 24 Apr 1799
Event Place Much Dewchurch,Hereford,England
"England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N268-B4P : accessed 22 November 2015),

Phil, all these records are available f-o-c by searching the excellent LDS aka Familysearch website, just take care to be methodical and always ensure the correct filters etc are ticked, good luck !

Sorry Phil, I've got to get back to fixing my dead C/H boiler, can't think why but the missus is complaining...maybe I should have fixed it in the summer months ?...!.
Have you tried searching LDS from the links we posted ?. It's an excellent site with stacks of info, just takes time to search them out which sadly I don't have at the mo.
All the best, Jeff.

I guess this is the marriage referred to for Edwin HUTTON:-

From FamilySearch General Register:-

Name Edwin Leonard Hutton
Event Type Marriage
Registration Quarter Apr-May-Jun
Registration Year 1891
Registration District Pontypool
County Monmouthshire
Event Place Pontypool, Monmouthshire, England
Volume 11A
Page 229
Line Number 219
Edwin Leonard Hutton probably married one of the following people
Name Caroline Davies
Name Mary James
Name Jabez Matthews

And from FamilySearch parish records:-

Name Edwin Hutton
Event Type Marriage
Event Date 08 Apr 1891
Event Place Mamheilad [Mamhilad], Monmouthshire, Wales
Age 26
Birth Year (Estimated) 1865
Spouse's Name Mary James

In 1881 it looks like Edwin (Edward sic – he is also referred to as Edward in the 1911 Census} was here in the household of his uncle:-

GR 1881 Census, Doward Farm, Ganarew, Heref,

Wm WILLIAMS, Head, Mar, 53, Farmer of 100 acres, b. Heref. Ganarew
Elizabeth, Wife, Mar, 52, Heref. Llangarren
Edward L. HUTTON, Nephew, Un, 15, Farm servant indoors. Heref. Llangarren
Thomas ALLAWAY, Servant, Un, 15, Farm servant indoors. Heref. Ganarew

Elizabeth must be the sister of Charles HUTTON as identified in Jeff’s 1841 Census post above.

The marriage from FamiySearch:-

Name Elizabeth Hutton
Event Type Marriage
Registration Quarter Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration Year 1853
Registration District Ross
County Herefordshire
Event Place Ross, Herefordshire, England
Volume 6A
Page 671
Line Number 9
Elizabeth Hutton probably married one of the following people
Name William Williams

If Edwin HUTTON and Mary were married in Mamhilad there should be some indication of their presence in the neighbourhood. This for Mary JAMES:-

GR 1891 Census, Cwm, Monmouth
Mon, Cwm
Eli BISHOP, Head, Mar, Head, 28, Labourer Iron Works, b. Mon, Cwm
Alice, Wife, Mar, 27, Mon, Cwm
Gladys, Daur, 6, Scholar, Mon, Cwm
Fred, Son, 3, Scholar, Mon, Cwm
Gertrude, Daur, 2, Mon, Cwm
Mary JAMES, Visitor, S, 28, Hereford, Whitchurch
Edwin DREW, Visitor, S, 27, Labourer Iron Works, Mon, Monmouth [on second view it looks more like OVEN]

Cwm is not that far from Mamhilad.

It might be very revealing if we can find Edwin HUTTON in the 1891 Census. This would be only a few days before his possible marriage.

As for Mary’s baptism:-

FamilySearch

Name Mary Anne James
Gender Female
Christening Date 13 Jul 1862
Christening Place WHITCHURCH,HEREFORD,ENGLAND
Father's Name James James
Mother's Name Ann
