The Crossways, Berry Hill - Mrs Amy Jones (nee Reece) (General)
Hello. I have just found out that my great great aunt Amy had a shop at Berry Hill.
She died in 1944 so appreciate a long time ago, but does anyone remember Amy or the shop? Amy originally came from Lords Hill.
Regards
Sophie

I think the shop was probably what became the Pike Stores that was on the corner at the cross roads where you turned to take the Ross road via Berry Hill and Christchurch. It survived as a shop until about 10 years ago. I'm not sure if the cross roads where there were shops down in Berry Hill was ever called crossways, or Five Acres?

I don't know the area that well, but maybe this late 1940s map may help you, Fred and Sophie ?
If you zoom into the top centre, The Crossways is marked just above the "C" in Coleford, midway between Scowles and Lower Berry Hill (just SW of Five Acres).

Hope this helps jog memories, or just helps place the various shops in the various hamlets etc ?

Hi Sophie,
does the information posted by an Alison Jones on the Frith site relate to your Amy Jones, about her family's shop at Berry Hill crossroads, or is it just coincidentally similar ?. Of course her family may not have been Jones too..
Or if not that family, perhaps the photo will help..
