PROSSER Bradney's History of Monmouthshire, V 1 Part 2 help? (General)
I had the good fortune to find newly-discovered family in the index of Volume 1 of Bradney's History of Monmouthshire..., but the bad luck of discovering it was in Volume 1, Part 2a (I think), the Hundred of Abergavenny. I can find all other volumes online. Not that one, of course!
This volume seems to be worth its weight in gold; the nearest volume is over a thousand miles from me, so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone here might have a copy?
The most interesting part of it is PROSSER, John, p. 230,
who might be my ancestor? Paul Prosser, of Garway Court in Herefordshire (a definite relative) is also on 230, as is possibly his sister, my ancestor, Mary? There are some Prossers on 229, but I don't know how they might fit into all this.
Thank you very much for any help! I just found this line yesterday and am very excited to learn more about them.

PROSSER Bradney's History of Monmouthshire, V 1 Part 2 help?
I have a copy of Vol 1 part 2a.
Page 230 shows the pedigree of the families of Gilbert & Price of Llansilow in which appear a line of Prossers.
Mary Price marries Paul Prosser of Garway Court, gent.no date but would appear to be early C19th.
Their children are:-
1)John Paul Prosser who marries Mary Gilbert the daughter of Thomas Gilbert who is married to an unnamed sister of Mary Price named above.
2)Walter March Prosser of St.Maughan's
3)Mary Ann who marries Charles Patrick Adams
no issue is shown for these 3
4) Elizabeth who marries Dr. Thomas Prosser of Monmouth
Elizabeth & Thomas' children are
1) Henry Paul Prosser vicar of Twickenham 1895
2)Thomas Gilbert Prosser of Monmouth esq surgeon & J.P.=Beatrice dau. to George Vernon Banks of Much Birch esq Thomas & Beatrice have 1 child Thomas Howard vernon Prosser
There is also a sister (Elizabeth) to Mary Price who marries an unnamed Prosser and no issue is shown
The Prossers on p. 229 appear in an older pedigree of the Oldcastles with few dates but seems to change from Rosser to Prosser some time in late 1500s and are mentioned in the 1600s but the pedigree stops there.
I can type them out as well if they are of interest.
Hope this helps.
PROSSER Bradney's History of Monmouthshire, V 1 Part 2 help?
Thank you, rhianonturrell! It seems that is an exceptionally hard volume to come by and I tried not to get my hopes too high. I'm ecstatic that you responded! I appreciate all your help and the information--it was quite a bit of typing. I also wondered how the Gilberts tied into all this and that points me in the right direction. I will keep the other information you mentioned in mind, just in case somewhere down the road it fits as well. I am so delighted, thanks again! Susan
PROSSER Bradney's History of Monmouthshire, V 1 Part 2 help?
I apologize for asking for more after you've already done so much!
Are Mary Price's parents named in the Price genealogy? I had no hope of finding them because Mary Price is a common name and she died before the 1841 census--no clue as to her birth and age. Paul Prosser md 1st Mary Price, then at her death, he married Elizabeth Price. I wondered if they were sisters and from what you wrote, it seems so. I don't believe there was issue from Paul's 2nd marriage, either.
The parents' information for Mary Price would be helpful, please, if they are mentioned in the book. I've troubled you enough for one day, I won't ask for the Price lineage beyond her parents.
Thanks again!
Susan
PROSSER Bradney's History of Monmouthshire, V 1 Part 2 help?
Mary & Elizabeth Price's parents were James Price of Llangua gent & Mary (no surname)
James' parents were Walter Price of Rowlston Court gent & Elizabeth Gilbert. (no further details on Walter Price here)
Elizabeth's parents were Nicholas Gilbert of Llansilow gent & Elizabeth Pitt (marriage settlement dated 17 July 1732)
Nicholas & Elizabeth also had a son James Gilbert of Llansilow esq;s.p. Will dated 20 Feb 1815 proved 27 April. "All his great nephews Price take the name Gilbert" (these are also in the tree and are the descendants of James Price of Llangua's brother Nicholas Gilbert Price-they seem to tag the Gilbert name onto the price name rather than call themselves Gibert)
Nicholas Gilbert's parents were Nicholas Gilbert of Llansilow Hall gent will dated 30 dec 1731 proved 23 June 1740 & Elizabeth(unnamed)
This Nicholas' parents were David Gilbert of Llansilow 1658, mother not named
David's parents-Lewis Gilbert of Llanislow gent = Catherine no surname
There are 2 more generations of Gilberts in Llansilow if you want them.
I made 2 slight errors in my previous message Walter Marsh Prosser not March
The other earlier pedigree that mentions prossers was not of the Oldcastle family but from the Oldcastle pages as is the Gilbert Price pedigree.
Please let me know if you want any more. Might be worth checking out the wills etc!
