barnabas smith (General)
I am looking for information on Barnabas Smith, baptised 20th June 1793. His mother was Elizabeth Smith, no father apparent; I think she went on to have further children, living with her son Richard at Hillersland until her death at the age of 93, she is buried with Richard at Christchurch. Barnabas is my great great grandfather, he married Sarah and they had Richard, William, George, James (my great grandfather) Edward, Timothy and Elizabeth. In 1851 they lived next door to Richard and his mother Elizabeth at Joyford, but I have no record of him before then apart from his birth. I'm not even sure of the identity of his wife Sarah. Can anyone help?

Hello
We're distant relatives.... My great great grandfather is William Smith (son of Barnabas and Sarah Scrivens) - William married Emma Price and they had a few children including John Arthur who was my great grandfather. Even though his roots and family originated from the Forest of Dean, John Arthur was a Mill Superintendent for RT Mills and his family relocated to Llanelli, South Wales some time later. However when John Arthur Smith died in 1937 he was buried in Lydbrook
Would love to hear from you!

Thank you for getting in touch. It's lovely to hear from someone from my Smith family - I have worked out that we are third cousins once removed, ie my grandfather Timothy was a first cousin to your John Arthur so they may have known each other. I have changed my forum settings so you can email me direct if you would like to do that as it would be great to chat further?
