Looking for information on my paternal great grandmother Edith Morgan nee Pritchard, born 1887 died 1957, particularly on her father Ernest James Pritchard who I can find no record of save the record of him on Ediths marriage certificate, would especially like to find out who her mother was, the marriage certificate stated that Edith lived at Nailbridge but she may have been welsh

FreeBMD has this record, which seems to fit the dates and marriage record;

Monmouth Registration District includes Tintern area.

I'm confused that sofar I only get ONE return from the FamilySearch site, which I'm NOT convinced is relevant;

James Pritchard

Guessing this record relates to the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) based at Monmouth Castle. Searching their database gives following record, which shows just how common a name this is, and also that one may have a crude sense of humour !!??.

Your search found 2 record(s)

Tweaking FamilySearch gives these more likely hits, especially after adding "Charles Pritchard" (from the above marriage record) to the "others" box.

Altho' Tintern's ancient Abbey Wireworks company had closed by 1875, it was reopened by the early 1880s as the Abbey Wire and Tinplate Co, but was closed for good by 1901. This may have been why Ernest moved into the Forest ?

See this highly detailed map from 1887, look for "wireworks" in Chapel Hill area west of the Wye.

Ernest James Pritchard m Agnes Johnston of Aberdare

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Sunday, February 18, 2018, 21:09 (2463 days ago) @ Jefff

Think this MAY be our man given the birthplace and age ?

1911 Abercarn, Abercarn, Monmouthshire, England
Household Role Sex Age Birthplace
Ernest Pritchard Head M 37 Assorter. Trelleck, Monmouthshire
Agnes Pritchard Wife F 29 Aberdare, Glamorganshire

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1909 (>99%)
COOPER Esther Newport M 11a 420
JOHNSTON Agnes Newport, M. 11a 420
PRITCHARD Ernest James Newport M 11a 420
VENN James Newport M 11a 420

Several Agnes Pritchards in FreeBMD records, but IF this is Earnest's wife ?... the age fits compared to the 1911 Census, it also fits his re-marriage in 1929.

Deaths Mar 1927 (>99%)
Pritchard Agnes R 45 Newport M 11a 399

Luckily post 1911 Birth records give mother's surname as well as father's.

So from FreeBMD, their children may include;

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Sep 1911
PRITCHARD Edna M Johnston Newport M 11a 629

Births Mar 1913
Pritchard Ernest R Johnston Newport M. 11a 634

Searching for marriages for these two, cannot see any obvious links to the FoD.

So was this "our man" or not ???

Edith's mother Leah Pritchard

Hi again Dawn.

I hoped that searching the forum for prior threads that mention those family names together might help us understand the various connections ? However sadly I didnt find much;

Whittington / Hewitt - sorry I cannot find any previous relevant threads, please clarify what you know about this possible link.

Whittington / Hamilton - sorry, again cannot find any previous relevant threads.

Whittington / Berkeley - please see https://forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=28602
"Dick Whittington ... was born at Pauntley about 1357, the third son of William Whittington, Lord of Pauntley. In 1352 William had married Joan ... the widow of Sir Thomas (de) Berkeley, of Coberley," so widow Berkeley was Dick's mother.

"Whittington was a younger son of a Gloucestershire landowner, Sir William de Whittington of Pauntley Manor, who, in 1348, represented the county in Parliament. His mother was Dame Joan Mansell or Maunsell, daughter of the Sheriff of Gloucester."
From https://www.newstatesman.com/culture/books/2015/12/search-real-dick-whittington

Please post again with more information re Hewitt, Hamilton, and so help us to help you, thanks.

Note: I did try looking at some of your own posts in earlier threads, but many of them have been "removed" so not very informative. I have no idea why this is so, it would be helpful to know.

Hi, I have been doing a lot of research in this and recently found out that I was actually working with one of my Whittington descendants , I was shocked as much as him and his family as also been doing a research on our family , he was the one who told me that the Whittingtons left the money to the Hewitt's ? Also I found some write up about the Berkeley family , and also the Spencer's ? This is where I am stuck , the Spencer's was something to do with Joan mansell ( I think ) I'm not sure if that's anything to do with the SPENCER'S " ? maybe more research is needed , the Hamilton's once again popped up in something that I have read online ... Again I'm not sure if it's the HAMILTON'S? Thank you for your reply.
Here's what I have found about the Berkeley family and Whittington's
https://www.geni.com/people/Johanna-Joan-Berkeley-Whittington-le-Archer/600000000644461... , I hope it's alright to post links ? If so I will post more of my findings .
https://www.genealogieonline.nl/en/whittington-families/I7364.php this one is the connection of the Berkeley family and Lennox , I might have it wrong but Lennox is the Spencer's family
Here's something else I have found that's interesting...
