Anne JOYNES born 1846 (General)
Anne JOYNES appears to be the last child of Stephen JOYNES (b 1804) and Elizabeth JONES (b1806) who were married in 1827. Their children wee Nathaniel b1829 (baptised Newent), Stephen b1832 (bapt Newent), Reuben b1834 (bapt Newent), Llewellyn b1836 (bapt Newent) [my great-great-grandfather], Alfred b1838 (no bapt in PR) died 1842, Ruth b1840 (no bapt in PR) Alfred Charles b1842 (bapt 1844 Coleford) and Anne b1846 (no bapt in PR). However, Stephen JOYNES died in 1844 (GRO Q1 Monmouth v26 p71 aged 40) and buried at Christchurch 29.3.1844 (this site). It is therefore difficult to see how he can be the father of Anne born in 1846. Her birth was registered as Anne JOYNES (GRO 1846 Q3 Monmouth v26 p89 mother's name JONES). Without seeing a copy of her birth certificate, her father is a bit of a mystery. She appears in the 1851 census:
Gloucester Road, Coleford
Elizabeth JOYNES 44 (1807) widow head joiner b Coleford
Nathaniel JOYNES 21 (1830) son coal miner b Coleford (actually b1829)
Rubin (Reuben) JOYNES 16 (1835) son coal miner b Coleford (actually b1834)
Lawelin (Llewellyn) JOYNES 14 (1837) son coal miner b Coleford (actually b1836)
Ruth JOYNES 10 (1841) b Coleford (actually b1840)
Charles JOYNES 8 (1843) b Coleford (actually b1842 and baptised 1844 at age of 1 yr 24 wks after his father died)
Anne JOYNES 4 (1847) b Coleford (actually b1846)
However, Anne JOYNES does not appear in any subsequent census, and I can find no death registration. There is nothing but her birth registration on FS, and only her birth registration and 1851 census on ancestry, findmypast or genealogist.
Anybody got any ideas?

There's a tree on Ancestry that has an Annie Joynes, 24, b: Colford, living in Leeds in 1871.
1871 England Census for Annie Joynes
Yorkshire Leeds West Leeds District 52
Anne JOYNES born 1846
There's an Ann Joyens, age 24, married 20 May 1871, Leeds, St Andrew, Yorkshire, father Stephen, Sailor. Married to Edward Smithson.
1911 census, Ann Smithson wife of Edwin Smithson, living 59 Chatham St. Leeds. Age 64, born Coleford.

Thank you for that.
Unfortunately as I no longer subscribe to Ancestry or Findmypast (too expensive) I cannot read the entry, and it does not appear in Genealogist (I used to subscribe but still appear to have access!) or UKCensusOnline, so I cannot see if there are any essential others at that address, eg a husband or children. It is possible she married a JOYNES, as my NASH ancestors married a distant NASH more than once.
On the surmise that she died in Yorkshire, I have found a death for Ann JOYNES 1928 Q2 Barnsley v9c p261 aged 83 (= birth 1847) which could be her. However, this does not explain her absence in 1861, 1881 and later censuses.

Thanks again for the Leeds tip and the marriage. I can see how JOYNES could become JOYENS. This was extremely useful.
As Annie SMITHSON, I have traced her through the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census, and going on a presumption that she stayed in Leeds for the rest of her life, I think she died in Leeds in 1922 (GRO 1922 Q1 Leeds v9b p561) aged 75 = 1847 birth, and Edwin SMITHSON died in 1926 (GRO 1926 Leeds v9b p362) aged 79 = 1847.
Once again this website has come to my rescue.
The only thing left to do is get a copy of her birth certificate for the possible identity of her father (or not!) ....one day.

These are the details of the Leeds Census entry,
GR 1871 Census, 4, Hyde Terrace, Leeds West
James A.HIRST, Head Mar, 24, Manufacturing Chemist, b. Yorkshire, Leeds
Susannah, Wife, Mar, 20, Derbyshire, Dinting
Louisa PARKIN, Servant, Unmar, 19, House maid, Yorkshire, Leeds
Annie JOYNES, Servant, Unmar, 24, Cook, Gloucestershire, Coleford

The marriage record shows her father as being Stephen, tailor (not sailor as I previously said). If you don't have access to it you can down load a copy from https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pX57WERk5EqnBpU4Yl47pSBmkPyUmAMH
The 1841 census shows Stephen as a tailor too. Maybe there's an error in dates somewhere.

?
There is a Emma JOYNES aged 14, on the 1861 census, Coleford, Newland, District 1 working as a House Servant for Thomas GRINDLE. As I can't see a baptism for an Emma JOYNES 1846 - Coleford, is this Annie/Ann

Thanks for all the help.
The complete picture seems to be:
Anne JOYNES born 1846 GRO Q3 Monmouth v26 p89 mother's names JONES. There is no baptism record. Father unknown as Stephen JOYNES (tailor as in 1841 census and Ann JOYNES' wedding) had died in 1844 (GRO Q1 Monmouth v26 p71) aged 40 and buried 29.3.44 at Christchurch (FoD).
Appears in 1851 census aged 4, born in Coleford, as daughter of Elizabeth JOYNES, widow, head of household in Gloucester Road, Coleford.
Does not appear in 1861 census.
In 1871 census appears as Annie JOYNES (genealogy websites transcribe her as JOYMES despite the original being clear), a cook in the household of James A Hirst, a manufacturing chemist aged 24 born in Leeds, living at 1 Hyde Terrace, Leeds West.
On 20.5.1871 Ann JOYNES married Edward SMITHSON at St Andrews Church, Leeds (GRO Q2 Leeds v9b p470). He signs as Edward although all other records show him to be Edwin. The marriage register spells her name as JOYENS although she signs it JOYNES. This confusion with the spelling of her name is repeated at GRO with the births of 4 of her children. Edwin SMITHSON was born in 1847 (GRO Leeds v23 p485, mother's name not given, so it may have been SMITHSON, therefore possibly being illegitimate. This means that neither Ann nor Edwin/Edward may have known their fathers.
In 1881 census Ann SMITHSON, aged 35 born in Coleford, is living with her husband and 5 children (Louisa, Lavinia, Frederick, Annie Eliza and Ada) at 24 Marlborough Street, Leeds.
In 1891 census Ann SMITHSON, aged 45 born in Coleford, is living with her husband and 6 children (all 1881 plus John Edward) at 64 Marlborough Street, Leeds.
In 1901 census Ann SMITHSON, aged 55 born in Coalford, is living with her husband and 5 children at 59 Chatham Street, Leeds.
In 1911 census Anne SMITHSON, aged 64 born in Coleford, is living with her husband and 3 children at 59 Chatham Street, Leeds. She had been married for 42 and had had 6 children, one of whom had died before 1911, but unable to determine which of the 1891 6 children had died (not Frederick, but Louisa and Ada may have married: too many options to identify them).
Anne SMITHSON died in 1922 (GRO Q1 Leeds v9b p561) aged 75 (=1847).
Edwin SMITHSON died in 1927 (GRO Q2 Leeds v9b p362) aged 79 )=1847)
Emma JOYNES as a servant aged 14 in Coleford in the 1861 census is a possibility as being Anne JOYNES as there is no birth of an Emma JOYNES registered at Monmouth 1846-48.
Thanks again for all the help.
Anne JOYNES born 1846
Further to the last one.
Emma JOYNES in the 1861 census looks even more likely as her birthplace is given as Coleford.
Looking again at the 1911 census for Anne SMITHSON, it would appear that the offspring that had died was Fred (GRO birth 1875 Q2 v9b p576 mothers name JOYENS, and GRO death 1902 Q1 Leeds v9b p341 age 26 (= birth 1875 as not yet reached his birthdate).
Thanks again for all the help.

You can download her birth certificate from here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cm65FLhLUgX6tpEaALRuBSG1VEaaDaQB (open in new tab)
It doesn't show a father though.
Anne JOYNES born 1846
Thank you probinson for the birth certificate for Anne JOYNES.
It completes a rather sad picture.
We will never know whether she ever actually knew her father. However, when she starts work it is still in Coleford, even though her name has changed (interesting to know what difference that made in a town as small as Coleford in the 1860s). Similarly, the man she marries in 1871, Edwin SMITHSON was born in 1847 but her GRO index entry does not give his mother's maiden name. This could mean that his mother's name was SMITHSON and that she was unmarried. Interestingly, the Ann JOYNES-Edwin SMITHSON marriage certificate states his father as John SMITHSON. A puzzle!
