TRACING FOD ANCESTORS IN AUSTRALIA (General)
If anyone is tracing their Ancestors who may have gone to Australia, either voluntarily or involuntarily, the following links may be useful.
Trove Historical Newspapers. Free. Extensive range of newspapers digitised and easy to search.
https://trove.nla.gov.au
Queensland State Government Archives have a range of items digitised such as some School Admission Registers which will show a persons attendance dates as well as fathers name ,occupation and address. Some Historical Maps are also available. A basic search will show if the records are available to inspect. An image search will show if they are available online.
(Other States will also probably have this facility)
https://www.archives.qld.gov.au
Historical BDM search. Will show a list of children or marriages etc. For births will only show results from more than 100 years ago.
Will show whether born in City or country. (Other States will have this facility as well)
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch
Tasmanian Convict Records.
The following site will take you to Tasmanian State Government Home page. On the page will be a sub heading "Tasmanian Names Index" Input a name and you will see all the documents relating to this person which have been digitised.
Also on this site are historical maps and photographs including some convicts
search.archives.tas.gov.au
Australian National Archives. This site also has extensive records search.
www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/
I trust these sites may be of some help.

TRACING FOD ANCESTORS IN AUSTRALIA
I went to the archives in Sydney over a decade ago and it was stocked with useful documents and information and the staff were helpful though they were more used to people tracing backwards to the UK than forwards as I was doing. (Not Forest of Dean ancestors and their antecedents but
in relation to someone who married into a Forest of Deanfamily).
