600,000 Herefordshire Records added to FamilySearch. (General)
This forum's threads have often ventured into Herefordshire, and we've bemoaned the fact that our neighbouring county is not as well-served for online FH researchers as Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. That said we are very lucky that many of Herefordshire's nearest Parishes to the Forest have been included within this site's FoD PR database .
I'm pleased to see that things appear to have improved in this respect, the latest "Who Do You Think You Are ?" newsletter advises the following;
"Free family history website FamilySearch has added a major new collection of 594,707 Herefordshire bishop’s transcripts (1583-1898).
Each Church of England parish was required to create copies of its registers to send to the local bishop, known as bishop’s transcripts.
These records are therefore a good alternative source for Herefordshire baptism, marriage and burial records where the originals are lost, although there may be occasional errors."
The records may be directly searched from here, or presumably via the general search page if "Herefordshire" is entered into the input field.

These Herefordshire bishop’s transcripts are transcribed from original documents at Hereford Record Office.

Hoping this is of interest, once again I recommend forum users to subscribe for the "WDYTYA" website newsletters.
