brilliant!!!
now that makes sense as Ida Gwynne who took the photo had (an un-named) studio at Northgate Street in the 1918 and 1920 directory!

our photograph dating expert said that she thought that they might be young men who enlisted at the same time. but their ages vary so much I doubt that they were friends.... and am still convinced they had family connections.

maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree!!!

but I love a mystery ;-)
