Tips for BARNETT/BARNARD Mitcheldean/East Dean (General)
Hi! I am just starting my research in the Forest of Dean area and I am fascinated and very excited to explore this history and ancestry!! Nothing is ever easy of course and I quickly found that Barnett and Barnard are somewhat interchangeable in this area. My Barnetts are from Plump Hill/Mitcheldean/East Dean. There seem to be more Barnards than Barnetts. Does anyone have any tips on connecting or eliminating a Barnard from a Barnett? Thanks so much for any insight!

It would help if you could give us the line you are researching and background etc.
Family names, Witnesses at Wedding, can help, Wills etc.

The only person I have confidence in is William Barnett or Barnard BIRTH ABT 1797 Mitcheldean and his son Timothy Barnett or Barnard Sr BIRTH 1827 East Dean
It appears they were from the Plump Hill area. I am getting very confused and it is making it hard to connect the dots or confirm who William was married to or which Barnard or Barnett he is.
It seems like the names Barnett and Barnard are interchangable throughout one persons life. They can be Barnett on one census, Barnard on another, a birth certificate is Barnett but they are buried a Barnard. Holy cow, head spinning. haha

William Barnard/Barnett is in my partner's tree.... being his 3x great uncle. I have him marrying Sophia Trigg as MPGriffiths says. on 1st October 1825
it is a minefield with the Barnard/Barnett lot and all the intermarrying lol.
Margaret Goode nee Hill next door in the 1841 census is the mother of Sophia Trigg. Margaret married twice ie Thomas Trigg and John Goode in 25th August 1825.... I have no further info on her husbands.
my partner is descended from William's brother Thomas Barnard who married Lucy Harris.
Barnettfamily….. are you a descendant of Timothy, son of William?
