Drybrook Inn - around 1850 (General)
Hi,
The Dam referred to is here :- The Atlas Farm The Dam Bishopswood, Howle Hill, Ross- HR9 5RA. I live about half a mile away.
It's not really on a route anywhere much these days, but walking back in 1850 might have been different. There is a path from down in Bishopswood on the Lydbrook to Ross road near where my Auntie Lil lived up by the side of the Oxlett stream; which if you carry on via the Dam would have taken you across Starve Beech and on towards either Drybrook via the Hawthorns road or down to Hope Mansell.
Call it a 35-minute walk if you put a shift on to go from down by the Wye up to Drybrook - be a bit puffed though, it's mostly up hill.
