Blakeney and Newnham Tabernacle (General)

It closed in the late 1980's

looking on Google maps it appears that the old Chapel is / was being renovated

The burial ground was I believe adjacent however it looks like this too is part of the renovation

Blakeney Tabernacle at Brains Green was held in trust by the trustees of the Hackney Theological Seminary, known as the "Village Itinerancy". The Tabernacle was opened "for the public worship of God" in 1823 when services were preached by the former curate of Trinity Church, Forest of Dean, who had "transgressed the bounds of discipline" and was no longer united "with any body of Christians". In December 1825 "a church was formed there of the Independent or Congregational Order" and was subsequently admitted to the Gloucestershire association of Independent Churches. In 1848 the Tabernacle was re-built and the new building was opened for worship again in 1849.

In 1972 Blakeney Congregational Church became part of the United Reformed Church after joining the National Union of Churches. It remained technically a United Reformed Church until its closure in September 1987, despite wishing to become an independent congregation following a dispute in 1975.
