Richard Jenkins of Clearwell back from the dead in 1839? (General)

by tonyjenkins @, Monday, April 28, 2008, 11:51 (6123 days ago)

Peter was baptised 24th 1838. His mother Susannah declares herself as a widow of Richard. ref 115607 - 152 Same for his sister Esther 115608 - 153

I believe Wood bap 8th March 1840 ref 115641 - 186 is a sibling of Peter (Richard and Susan are also the parents of Wood)

I believe the father of Peter, Esther, and Wood is the same Richard Jenkins who died in 1868.

Are there two Richard Jenkins married to Susan and living in Newland at the same time?

Any Help is appreciated

Regards

Tony Jenkins

This might hint at the "Stonecutter Widow" note on his childrens Baptism's i.e. Richard was a Widow Stonecutter , not Susanna

Slowhands

Thanks for clearing up the problem and even more so for finding Mary Birt (Richards first wife) I had no idea.

Richard and Sussannah had a daughter in 1845 Mary probably named after Richard's first wife. I believe Alfred Reece (1861 census) is the base born of Mary, Richard and Sussannah's daughter.

I cannot find a marriage or subsequent death for Mary.

Once again thanks for your help.

Kind Regards

Tony

Mary Jenkins 1843

by tonyjenkins @, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 12:43 (6121 days ago) @ ChrisW

Chris

I am guessing but have found a Alfred Jenkins working as a groom, aged 7, in the 1871 census, for the vicar of Christchurch (Monmouthshire).

Also residence is a Mary Mathews aged 26.

Ages are right!

Could this be the Mary and Alfred I am looking for?

That's interesting Tony, but I can't find a Mathews/Jenkins marriage on BMD 1860-1871.

Hi Chris

Because his grandfather Richard was still alive we believe he was called Alfred within the Family and so recorded in the 71 census.

I have been trying to reach you via e-mail as I believe my G.Grandmother was the Mary Jenkins you are looking for.
It will be too difficult to explain my evidence on here but I do need some advice before posting my findings.
Would you or some-one with interest in this family please contact me via my e-mail address please.
Many thanks

Mary Jenkins 1843 Clearwell

I am now sure that Mary Jenkins was my Great Grandmother.
She married Thomas Ainsworth in London and although Thomas is at home in Marylebone on the 1871 census Mary is missing. I have found her visiting her Mother Susannah in Clearwell, she has a 1 year old baby 'Kate' with her who was born in Marylebone.
'Kate' was Catherine Esther Ainsworth born 19th March 1870 in Marylebone. The baby died the following year in 1872.
On her marriage certificate to Thomas Ainsworth in 1868 Mary has stated that her Father was Richard Jenkins a Stone cutter, A further clue was that on the 1871 census when Thomas was at their home in Marylebone there is a Fred Williams staying with them as a boarder, his place of birth was Clearwell Gloucester.

Richard JENKINS Clearwell Widower in 1831

by tonyjenkins @, Wednesday, May 07, 2008, 11:54 (6114 days ago) @ slowhands

I have found a Richard Jenkins son of Issac born 1810, Living in Ellwood

I believe my Richard is the SO Peter and Esther Bap 1809, but am confused as to which Richard married Mary Birt as both are possible.

Any suggestions please.
