Not too sure of his actual date of birth. 1871/1881 census give date of 1865 but I found the following baptism, which shows a different date. He could have been baptised at a later date.

I am nearing the end of my quest for the Phelps family, there are so many of the decendants of the Herbert/Phelps families in and around the mining areas near where we live that one would be hard pressed to find a true blue Yorkshire person.
