Joys Green (school 1895-1899) William Owen

Hi
I am pursuing information relating to William Owen, who taught at Joys Green School as his first teaching post, between 1895 and 1899. Would there be any archives or photographs which might shed further light on his time at the school please ? Ideally a photo of the school from that date, or if not, I would settle for a photo of Joys Green hamlet itself. I would also like to clarify if it was just a primary school, or if at that time it taught up to an older age, 16 perhaps ?

I have already emailed Gloucester Archives and am awaiting a response. I Understand the school has only just closed, which is very sad. I gather that in its day, there were over 250 pupils there.

I am also interested to learn if a Gwendoline Empsall taught at the school at or around the same time.

Any information anyone can provide would be most useful, as I am currently in the final stages of writing a short biography about Mr Owen. If there is a good photo or two, that I can use in my book, I will be pleased to acknowledge and recompense you for.

many thanks

hi
I,too am interested in anything to do with Joys Green as my father Albert Edward ALLAWAY was born in Joys Green in 1903. His family were living there in 1901(until1905) when they moved to Monmouthshire. Any info an ALLAWAYs attending the school would be much appreciated

Just as a matter of interest my family lived in The rocks Joys Green in 1891 and 1901 census. Their names were George and Sophia Treherne and their children George (b1880) Lydia (b 1883) Isaac (B 1888) Sydney (b1890) James (b1892) William (B1896) my grandfather, Martha (1899) and Charlotte (b1900). I have some information about all the children but not charlotte. I do not know if any of these children went to the school you mentioned.

I wondered if you had found any further information about the photo of Joys Green school. My family name of Treherne lived ther at that time and i am sure that some of the children would have attended that school.

thanks for the quick responses so far. Am aware of both those sites, but nothing of the village, or of the school itself, or of Mr Owen, so still hoping.
