Chepstow - Home for Unwed Mums to be (General)
Does any one know whether 1A MOUNTON ROAD in CHEPSTOW was a home, where Unmarried Mums-to-be could go to stay to give Birth, and/or give up their Babies for Adoption between 1912 - 1920?
I have 2 Birth Certificates for Illegitimate Children from 2 different places in Forest of Dean and both have the above address as Place of Birth.
Any Info would be Much Appreciated

Chepstow - Workhouse
Park Lodge / 1a Mounton Rd and Regent House are roughly at the junction of Thomas St and Mounton Rd.
There is a history of nursing / small hospital / work house /social housing in this vicinity.
I would not be surprised if "1a" was an annexe to the Poor house /Work house ( Regent House is all that remains today) http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Chepstow/Chepstow.shtml

1a Mounton Road was the Union Workhouse in Chepstow. Lots of illegit children born there including some of my rellies. Just where slowhands says, overlooking Somerfield. There is a home for the elderly there now and a few Social services offices still, I believe.
